All About Eyeglasses

Some people call them spectacles. Others call the discs for the eyes. Glasses might
be called different things in different countries, but they are a quite unique
invention. In this text you will find out more about this fascinating subject.

The History of Eyeglasses

Glasses enhance or can correct a persons vision. Glasses were invented between
1268 and 1289 in Italy. Around the 1300s, they were called, "discs for the eyes". The
U.S. had over 300 eyeglasses realities during the 1820s and 1830s. When they were
made the only people who wore them were monks and scholars.

How Eyeglasses Are Made

The process to make glasses may seem like a three-day process, but it's only four
complicated steps. The four steps are surfacing, fining, edging, and coating.
Surfacing is when the optician (the person who makes the glasses) selects the
proper lens and places it in a lens leth to create thickness.The next step to make
glasses is fining. Fining is when the machine polishes the back lens and then places
a fine grip pad on it until it is clear and polished. After fining the next step would
be edging. Edging is when the machine cuts the lens down to the correct size then it
moves it to the edge with the frame you select then creates a 3D image and copies
it using a diamond cutting wheel. Later after the edging step is completed they
move to the coating stage. Coating is the last step and it involves Anti-reflective
coating and it is used to prevent glare in the glasses. After that is applied to the lens
16 thin layers of metal oxide is placed on the glasses. This concludes the process to
make glasses.

Why Glasses Are Important

Glasses could be an important part of somebody's life. This is true because glasses
were invented to enhance a person's vision. Also they can correct somebody's
vision. Nowadays glasses aren't just used to enhance a person's vision now people
wear them to show personality (a.k.a. personality glasses).
