In conjunction with the The Independent, psychologist Ian Wallace (who has inter

preted over 150,000 dreams during more than 30 years of practice) helped come up
with a list of the nine most common types of dream, and what they actually mean
.
1. Falling
We ve all had this one, and it s f*cking scary. The feeling of falling is believed t
o imply that you re hanging on too tightly to a particular situation and you need
to let go of it. Basically, stop being so up tight about stuff and maybe you ll st
op plummeting off skyscrapers in your sleep.
2. Finding an unused room
This one is a little more low key, and doesn t quite compare to falling (however i
t s equally as important meaning-wise). This is one of the more rather literal dre
ams and suggests you ve unknowingly discovered a hidden talent. Funny that I ve neve
r had this one eh?
3. Being unprepared for an exam
You re not a human unless you ve had this dream at least once. No matter much studyi
ng you do, the night before an exam always yields this dream. This suggests you re
critically analysing yourself, but Ian Wallace says you shouldn t have to. Be con
fident and back your ability to succeed, otherwise these sorts of dreams will ke
ep plaguing you.
4. Flying
The old classic; every person who has ever watched a superhero movie has dreamed
about flying over cities it s just natural. But what does it all mean? Flying in
dreams symbolises being free and liberated, usually because you have managed to
make a huge decision in life or risen above a heavy responsibility. Now that s dee
p
Number 9 (over the page) is definitely the most common dream I get
5. Being in an out-of-control vehicle
Scary stuff indeed, but what does this incident fuelled dream reveal about our p
syche? Not what you d naturally think it turns out. This sense of being out of cont
rol essentially means you don t think you have enough control over your road to suc
cess. So does this mean I m not going to die?
6. Being naked in public
While I love being naked in the comfort of my own home, the idea of being naked
in public frightens the life out of me. This dream does exactly what it says on
the tin, suggesting that you feel vulnerable and exposed (literally and figurati
vely), and means you do should probably be a little more confident on your own a
bility.
7. Being unable to find a toilet
There is not a worse feeling in the world than desperately needing to go to the
toilet. Dream-wise, this expresses that there s an issue in your everyday life tha
t you are finding challenging to express your own needs.
8. Teeth falling out
Less a dream, and more of a nightmare, losing your teeth is the dream version of
being whacked in the nuts. Teeth, in this case, symbolise your confidence, so t
his means it s weakening in waking life. In short, boost your ego if you want to s
top dream-losing your teeth.
9. Being chased
Literally everyone has been chased during a dream, if anything it s a dream-staple
. Pretty harrowing at times, what does it mean? It simply means that you don t wan
t to confront an issue as you don t know how too. Don t fancy being chased in your s
leep anymore? Challenge your issues head on people.
Well there you go, there is now no need to spend hours deliberating about what y
our dreams mean. Thank God we had Ian Wallace s amazing dream insight, because we d
probably still be fumbling around trying to work out why we fell off a bridge an
d wound up naked in the park.
