Different types of radio stations

What are they and how are they broadcast?

FM / DAB / Satellite FM Radio is a type of radio that is broadcast via


Frequency Modulation (FM). The information to be
transmitted is encoded in an electromagnetic wave by
changing the frequency of the wave.
DAB radio is digital radio. Analog audio signals are
converted into digital signal and are transmitted as
individual channels which are shown alphabetically as
opposed to the frequency of the channel. DAB radio is
high quality audio, if the signal is not strong there will
be no audio transmitted at all.
Satellite radio uses the satellites in the earths orbit to
transmit signals and broadcasts. Satellite radio
channels can be tuned into using TVs and
freeview/Satellite TV channels.

Internet / Podcast Internet radios is Radio channels also making their


broadcast available on their internet pages. The BBC
make their radio stations available on their radio
websites, which can attract a larger audience.
Podcasts are pre-recorded audio clips that can be
listened to at any time, usually via the internet. They
are recorded digitally using a microphone and
uploaded to internet pages or to streaming services
such as iTunes.

Transmissions In order to transmit to people through FM radio, we


needed for a FM would need a radio mast that has a frequency covering

Henley College, we already have a mast that covers the
college area for announcements and fire alarms, so this
would not be a problem in terms of equipment and cost.

Difference between Part live radio is more interactive with the viewers than
part live and pre- pre-recorded because there is the option to talk to
