CAN WOMEN BE KARTA

ABSTRACT

Karta is the head of the family also called as manager of the family, occupies
pivotal position. So unique in his position that there is no comparable office or
institution in any other system of the world. His position is sui generis. Women
plays a active role in family, she is the real manager of the family. Karta is the
caretaker of the whole family and looks after the welfare of all the members of the
family. His relationship with other members is a relationship of trust and confidence.
A son's share in the property in case the father dies intestate would be in addition to
the share he has on birth. But after the amendment daughters have from birth
coparcenary rights. So they can be Kartas as they are now recognized as coparcenors.
Such an act will spread awareness and increase literacy among women as they will be
involved in family affairs and they will have a say in business. Nowadays women are
equally treated as men.
