V. VERSION) TECHRICAL BULLETIN GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR | MARINE DESIGNERS No. 692B GENERAL GUIDELINES ‘The CHOCKFAST system is used for mounting al sizes and types of main and auilary machinery. I eliminates all ‘machining of foundation suefaces and will conform pre ‘aely 10 the surface profiles presented. The individal ‘hocks are aringed similarly to conventional iron ones Removal of gretse, oil, mill scale andior rust or flaky paiet is the only preparation usually necessary for machinery supporting surfaces, These surfaces should be cleaned if Covered by other than a thin cat of inorganic zine paint ff similar primer. Inorganic zine ls recommended where machinery base and foundation corrosion resistance Is e- ‘ulted, a in dhe case of deck machinery and other equip” ‘ment constantly exposed to water Which Grade of CHOCKFAST to Use ‘when alignment must he maintained precisely, of when the operating temperature will exceed 52°C (125°F) but rot 90% (I94°F), then CHOCKFAST ORANGE* must be Used, Examples of this class of machinery are propulsion engines and gearbores, ‘Where alignment does not have to be maintained precisely, usually because the equipment is self-contained, and the Operating temperature will be below 82°C (128°), thea CHOCKFAST ORANGE of CHOCKFAST GRAY? may be ‘used. Release the jack screws, wedges or other alignment supports. 6, Tighten the hold down bolts to the desired tension or torque. 7. Fit the messuring pins if alignment is critical. (NOTE: CHOCKFAST ORANGE ONLY ‘Under some circumstances a reduced amount of hardener \s used. Refer to Bulletin 693, excerpted below, or consult 4 Ghockfist distibutor for guidance. Because there are so ‘many variables in chock size, chock thickness, metal tem- perature, heat sink, etc, itis advantageous to condition the resin t0 20°C - 28°C (68 - 77°F). The decision on ceractly how much hardener to use is to be made by the technician in charge. Bulletin 693 and the graph below are a guide only. For chocks less than 20mm (9 in) thick always use fll hardener, For chocks less than 12mm (jt in) or chocks that must be poured in layers consult 2 Chockfas dstibu- tor for advice. Always use maximum hardener sith ‘Choekiast Gray. ‘TECHNICAL SERVICE AND SUPERVISION ARE READILY AVAILABLE, CONTACT YOUR LOCAL DISTRIBUTOR HARDENER RATIO GUIDE (Hardener reductions correspond to markings on the hardener bottle) Stee! The compound is non shrinking and has very high Impact and compressive strength. Years of successful in-service experience have shown the use of PR-G10TCF to be a far ‘superior yel less expensive method of establishing and permanently relzining precise equipment alignment under extreme ‘conditions. PR-GTOTCF is approved or accepted for its inlended marine use by American Bureau of Shipping, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, Det Norske Veritas, Germanischer Lloyd and most other major regulatory agencies worldwide. APPLICATION: CHOCKFAST ORANGE was developed as a chocking or grouting compound for use under marine main propulsion ‘machinery. The compound is used under diese! and gas engines, reduction gears, generators, compressors, pumps, bearing blocks, erane rails and numerous other applicatons. PR-GIOTCF requires no special tools or special skils as does chocking with steel, When cast, CHOCKFAST ORANGE flows readily into the chock area filing voids and conforming to all lreguleries.
