II.

OBJECTIVES
General Objectives:

The student nurse will be able to acquire adequate knowledge,


practice applicable technique, and develop appropriate attitude and skills
in caring for a patient who had undergone mastectomy towards optimum
level of functioning.

Specific Objectives:

At the end of this case study, the student-nurse will be able to:

1. relate patients personal history in terms of:

1.1 Patients profile

1.2 Family and individual information, social and health history

1.3 Level of growth and development

2. cite patients diagnostic test results

3. discuss present profile of functional health patterns

4. review the normal anatomy and physiology of the breast

5. draw a schematic diagram of the pathophysiology of the breast

6. compare the classical and clinical signs and symptoms

7. present the nursing care plan formulated for the patient with
breast tumor

8. demonstrate the necessary nursing skills to have efficient patient


care

9. impart health teaching related to the care of the post


mastectomy patient

10. develop a positive attitude as a student nurse in the care of


patient with breast tumor and had undergone mastectomy.

11. evaluate the effectiveness of the nursing care implemented.


The patient and significant others will be able to:

1. establish a trusting relationship with the student-nurse

2. discuss relevant history and information about self

3. define mastectomy and breast tumor (phyllodes)

4. enumerate different signs and symptoms of breast abnormalities

5. get involved in the planning of case management with the


student-nurse

6. cooperate with the student-nurses in the implementation of care


measures

7. demonstrate skills in the management of post mastectomy


patient

8. verbalize feelings about the student-nurse and patient interaction

9. establish proper health management post mastectomy with


regards to medications, diet, exercises, and lifestyle.
