Preface
The introductory English Language Workbook One for the Kindergarten Class
has been designed and compiled to develop the core competencies of Reading
and Writing in the very young. Through carefully graded exercises children, ages
five and six are prepared to move easily and with confidence to Primary School.
The notions and concepts used in the books, and the topics chosen, are
appropriate to the age and cognitive background of kindergarten children.
Pupils learn about actions, abilities and explore colors, sense perceptions and
feelings. The children learn to frame and draw inferences from the pictures and
illustrations and to comprehend the underlying context. They learn to count and
put in words the number and scale of objects around them.
With each exercise the children learn to play and juggle with words changing
their arrangement and sequence adding letters to the beginning and end of
the words, merging some and splitting others, to form new words.
With this intensive practice and activity in handling words in different contexts,
the children absorb the meaning of words and the sense of sentences naturally.
The exercises enhance the pupils graphic and phonological knowledge of
individual letters and words, and their sight vocabulary in easy and pleasurable
ways. They learn to enjoy their ability to express themselves in the written word.
