DURING READING

1. What is the genre?

- The genre of the story is fiction.

2. What is the authors point of view?

- Mitch Albom wrote for one more day based on his relationship with his mother.

Rhoda Albom was his mother. Mitch noticed that his mother will not always be there

for him so he decided to write a book about their relationship.

3. Do you agree or disagree with it?

- We agree.

4. What passage or quotes can you later cite in your review?

- You cant lose your mother, Charley. This quote was said two times in the story.

The first one is when Charley would go to school and he wouldn't let go of his mom,

that's why Posey said this phrase. The second one is when they were parting their

ways. And because of this, we think that it signifies the plot of the story.

5. What is the authors thesis statement or main point?

- The authors main point is for us to realize the importance of our mothers in our

lives. We dont have to waste any chance to love, care for them.

6. What is the authors style? Formal or informal?


- The author's style is informal because she used the first person's point of view.

And there were words which used informally.

7. Is it suitable for the target reader?

- Yes, in our assumption, the target reader is the youths or teenagers that are facing

the same situation as Charley was going through.

8. Are the concepts well-defined?

- There were some ideas that are not clear to the readers. Maybe because of the

chronological order of the story, but the whole story's concept is well defined.

9. Is the language clear and convincing?

- Yes. We think that the language used is easy to understand and clear.

10. What areas are covered, not covered?

- The story had love when his wife and daughter forgave him for all his actions that

are being alcoholic. There is divorce where Charley became Mommys boy when his

father left them.

11. How accurate is the information?

- It is accurate. In the latter part of the story they cited some evidences. Like Miss

Thelma Bradley is real and those happenings during Saturday morning did really

happened. Also the mummy costume of Chick where the author shared that one

event of his life.

12. Is the authors concluding chapter or summary convincing?

- Yes.
13. If there are footnotes do they provide important information?

- There were no footnotes in the story but the Epilogue itself provides important

information.

14. Do they clarify or extend points made in the text?

- Yes, the last part, specifically the Epilogue, they clarified the happenings by citing

evidences.

15. What did the book or article accomplish? Compare this book or article to those

written by other authors.

- This book accomplishes the importance of our loved ones, that if we really do love

someone, we shouldnt neglect the people around us, the humans who cared for us.

This book is different in other books because it has the amazing plot twists and its

not all about a sick love story.

- There's still another chance even just for a day.

B. What is your knowledge about the title?

- We haven't heard the title before, but by just merely reading it, we can conclude

that this story revolves around a person who lose hope and was given a chance

even just for a day.

A. Can you identify limitations?

- I think there are no limitations.

B. Are there parts which the author intentionally or unintentionally ignored?

- We dont think so. Even if there are any questions or cliff hangers, the plot twists in

the ending answers it all.

A. How are the ideas organized?

- The ideas were organized in a topical manner or form.

B. What logical order does it follow?

- It started from the flashbacks all the time where Chick was remembering

memories about himself when he was young. The author used flashbacks to show

the difference between the past and the present.

- For One More Day, written by Mitch Albom is a novel, at times poetic and at times

sentimental, tells the story of a day in the death of Chick Benetto, ex-pro baseball

player, ex-husband, and ex-father. A near-death experience in which he encounters

the spirit of his dead mother is the catalyst of a journey into his troubled past, the

narrative of that journey exploring the theme of relationships between parents and

children, as well as loyalty and human fallibility.

3. Write a review of the book or article. Is this the best article or book? Why or why

not?

- This is the best book for young readers that neglect their parents, thinking the way

that their parents are the antagonist of their lives. Theyd probably come to their

parents, running, hugging them after reading this book.

- Mitch Albom is an American author, journalist, screenwriter, dramatist, radio and

television broadcaster, and musician. His books have sold over 35 million copies

worldwide. Having achieved national recognition for sports writing in the earlier part

of his career, he is perhaps best known for the inspirational stories and themes that

weave through his books, plays, and films.

5. Consider the target reader for your review. Include information based on the

needs of the reader.

- The youth. The youth where they make their parents taken for granted.

6. Provide a good conclusion. It could be a final assessment of the review.


- Therefore after reading this book, you will see who the real people are taking care

of you.

WRITING THE LITERATURE REVIEW

What was the story about?


- The book tells the story of a troubled man and his mother, and explores how

people might use the opportunity to spend a day with a lost relative.
Who were the main characters?
- Chick Benetto, Maria, Posey
What did the main characters do in the story?
- Chick Reflected and bring back the memories of his childhood. Maria The

one telling the story. Daughter of Chick who got married. Posey Mother of

Chick who has contributed so many things in life of Chick without him

noticing.
How did they contribute to the conflict in the story?
- Chick, where he didnt even got the chance to cherish the moment with his

mother, became miserable when his mother passed away, Maria who didnt

invite his father to her wedding that cause Chick to suicide. Posey, the

mother of Chick who is like a ghost.

5. What is the conflict in the story?

- When Chick was younger, he was closer to his father than his mother. His father

left and his life crumbles. He lost his family and money due to his alcoholism. He

became suicidal and decides to go to his hometown and is surprisingly welcomed by

her mother who died earlier years ago.

- We relate to Chick because sometimes we forgot the love of our mothers.

- When Posey suddenly appeared.

- We wont change the ending since it is a great ending.

10. Would you recommend this story to others? Why or why not?

- Yes. Because it is a great story and a big wakeup call for everyone who neglected

their parents.
