Referring to the UNESCO Atlas of the worlds languages in danger, which raises
awareness on language endangerment and the need to safe guard the worlds linguistic
diversity,
Emphasizing that languages are a vital part of local ecologies that must be supported if a
healthy biodiversity is to be sustained,
Alarmed by the amount of languages being endangered and the speed rate of languages
becoming extinct.
5. Emphasizes upon the enforcement of the rights for the minority groups on their
language preservation :
a. these languages would be maintained and sufficient support would be given to
protect them from outsiders who can ultimately affect the number of speakers
of a language;
b. reiterates that when speakers , linguists, language planners and policy makers
work together, endangered languages may be brought back to prominence:
i. increasing the language's prestige within the dominant community;
c. emphasizing on the equitable distribution of resources for these minority
groups to sustain themselves;
d. increase their legitimate power in the eyes of the dominant community;
e. implementing their place and position in the education system;
6. Endorses services such as policy advice, technical expertise and training for the
communities initiating their linguistic preservation programmes.
