Lead-free multiferroic samples of Bi4-xLaxTi3-zDyzO12 (where x = 0.

75 and z =
0.1, 0.2, 0.3) ceramics in single crystal form at room temperature have been
synthesized by solid-state reaction method using high purity starting
materials (Bi2O3, La2O3, TiO3 and Dy2O3).The ground and well-mixed powders
were firstly calcined at ____ C for ____ hours, then pressed into pellets under
a uniform pressure of ____ and then sintered at _____C for _____ hours. The
crystal structure and morphological analysis of the prepared samples has
been carried out using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron
Microscopy techniques. XRD studies confirm the formation of single phase
orthorhombic unit cell for each sample under investigation. The orthorhombic
distortion was found to increase with substitution. SEM images of the
samples reveal dense microstructure, a uniform grain size and plate-like
growth of grains for x = 0.75 and z = 0.0 and this plate-like structure is
hindered with substitution. Structural distortions in the crystal structure have
been studied by Raman Spectroscopy. These lead-free multiferroic ceramics
exhibit a coupling between magnetism and ferroelectricity (Magneto-electric,
ME, effect), due to which they find application in numerous devices such as
sensors, data storage devices and multiple state memory devices.
