Prior Knowledge (What prior knowledge are you building in?)


This unit focusing on puzzles and students had solve different puzzles and encouraged to
think. Specifically about this lesson; students already know about different folktale stories.
Students already solve puzzles in the previous lesson and in this lesson they will solve a
puzzle. Also, they will build more new vocabulary from the story. Besides, they will build
more knowledge on how to think and find a fair solution to solve different problems. This is
will help to increase their thinking skills and their awareness of different things.
Lesson Objectives: (What will students be able to do by the end of the lesson?)
o Students will understand and use the new vocabulary from the story (expensive,
delicious, enjoying and pay).
o Students will listen and read the story with the teacher (the students will listen to the
story and read with the teacher to understand the main points).
o Students will solve a different questions (Students will work in group to solve the
questions about the new vocabulary and about the story).

Attitudes:

o Respect each other opinions (I will ask them open questions so they have to
respect each other opinions and responses).
o Its acceptable to make mistakes. (Students might mispronounce some words
while they repeating the vocabulary and the sentences and I should mention to
them you should try and its fine to make mistakes).
o To work cooperatively (Students should work cooperatively to accomplish any
task I assign to them as group work).
o Respect each other thinking (As this unit all about puzzles so they have to
understand that people think differently and some need more time to

Knowledge/Understanding:

o Students will increase their learning about different new vocabulary from the
story.
o Students will apply the knowledge that they have learned to solve some
questions.
o Students will increase their knowledge and awareness of the structure of direct
speech.
Skills:
Listening: To listen to a folktale.
Speaking: To discuss a folktale with their peers and answer different questions verbally.
Reading: To read a folktale with the teacher and with their friend.
Writing: To answer questions about the story and writing the answers on their worksheet.

Evaluation / Assessment: (How will you know your students have achieved the
lesson objectives?)
In this lesson I will use different types of assessment such as observing students while they
are working on their activity. I will monitor students while they are working and give them
the support if they need and help them. It is vitally important to check students frequently in
the lesson and check their understanding to know if they achieved the lesson objectives or
not. Second, I will use questioning techniques during explaining the story with them to check
if they understand or not. Moreover, during story time I will ask students open and closed
questions to give all students equal chance to answer different levels of the questions.
Personal focus
In this lesson I am working on one of my PDP goals which is doing background reading and
additional research about my lesson. The lesson is about folktale story and I will do
additional research on Google and YouTube to gather more knowledge about how to explain
the story for the students step by step. Also, I will read about the folktale stories to have
background knowledge. I think this is very significant for the teacher to do because there are
many ideas on the internet the teacher can take it and apply it and I usually do this to
improve my skills and ideas in teaching. On the other hand, I will memories one story and if
students finish the lesson then I can tell them the story. The students will enjoy listening to a
story as it something extra and different from the lesson.
Teaching Competencies focus
In this lesson I am working on managing learning competence. Managing learning means
that the teacher able to manage the lesson and students behavior during the lesson. Also,
means that the teacher able to use cooperative work effectively and let students work with
each other. Moreover, it is related to use appropriate classroom management strategies
because that will impact positively on students and their learning. Besides, it means that the
teacher able to manage classroom routines and transition and that will help in build positive
environment.
It is very crucial aspect in teaching because it shows what a teacher can do in her class and
what her capabilities. Managing learning is allow the teacher to use activities, use classroom
management effectively and it is basically about the design of the lesson. So in this lesson I

had already establish classroom rules to manage students behavior and at the beginning of
the lesson I will remind the students of them. In addition, I will use cooperative work
effectively. To clarify, I will let students work together to solve the task.

Teaching Strategies:

Teaching strategies: using modeling strategy such as model sentences for them by
write it in the board, using dialogue teacher to students and student to student. Also,
I will link the lesson to their own experience to maximum students interest for
instance, I will ask them about their best smell of food.
Classroom management strategies: using the rules and remind the students of
them, use gestures because that affect a lot on students and manage the class. Also,
I will use phrases to stop them from work and the one that I been using it with them
is stop, look and listen and they replay we are listening. Moreover, I will use MENTOS
because it include every aspect related to manage the classroom.
Behavioral management strategies: using eye contact for example; when any
student misbehave I will look into their eyes until they stop misbehaving, use ripple
effect by correct students behavior so it affects positively in the other students
(Kounins theory). Also, if someone misbehave I will stop the class and say when you
finish just tell me and I will use it in serious situations.
Feedback strategies: Use verbal feedback such as good, very good, excellent, good
job, well done, think about it and all these verbal feedback depends on the students
response. Expanding this kind of feedback; during discussion time I will give students
feedback on their responses to let them think more about the issue that they have to
discuss it. Moreover, I will give them feedback on their writing as well while they
answering different questions.
