ABOUT THE POET:Norman Cornthwaite Nicholson, OBE (8 January 1914 30 May 1987), w
as an English poet, known for his association with the Cumbrian town of Millom.
His poetry is noted for its local concerns, straightforward language, and elemen
ts of common speech. Although chiefly known for poetry, he wrote many works in o
ther forms: novels, plays, essays, topography and criticism.
SUMMARY:
The first stanza talks about the tasks the poet gives us before his leave.He sta
rts by summmoning us to start the count down,prephaps have a last look at him an
d pass his helmet which hangs in its plastic hook.He teels us to cross his name
off the telephone summary as we cant no longer call him.Why???Because he is leav
ing to outspace tomorrow morning.
The second stanza describes about the poet s journey in the space suttle.He tells
that he would nt have to bother neither about the date or time nor the seasons.He
is the master of his own planet for he would wake without a knock and sleep mind
ent about the clock.Why???Because he is leaving to outspace tomorrow morning.
The third stanza says about his confinement as he would nt write any letters or po
sting any mail for no body can visit nor can he visit a friend in space who stil
l hail.He prepares himself to live confined like jail.Why???Because he is leavin
g to outspace tomorrow morning.
The fourth stanza tells about the commencing of his journey for he has closed hi
s capsule door and has set off to space.Tea cups happen to circle him like plane
ts for he is the center of his own gravity in an universe of one.Why???Because h
e is leaving to outspace tomorrow morning.
The fifth stanza summons us to see him on television and follow him as he flies
or rather track him with a telescope for he dosent give a damn about what we do
.Why???Because he is leaving to outspace tomorrow morning.
The sixth stanza brings out the thrill as he sets out on his trans galatic hop w
ith 20 light years before his first stop and then all of us can let out all our
hatered and envy.Why???Because he is leaving to outspace tomorrow morning.
