Fe, Al and Ti Oxide can be recovered through reduction roasting, magnetic

seperation, reduction smelting, direct ,magnetic seperation and leaching-based

methods. The most efficient method appears to be reduction roasting combined
with magnetic seperation.

several methods have been evaluated to recover metals from red mud, including
acid leaching, ion-exchange-solvent extraction, combined roasting and acid leaching
and chemical precipitation. Acid based leaching and ion exchange appears to be
effective in recovering scandium, yttrium and the heavy rare earth elements (HREE)
from red mud. Reported recovery rate for acid-based leaching methods are up to
80% for the recovery of scandium, up to 90% for the recovery of yttrium and up to
70% for the HREE.

The Recovery rate for Scandium, yttrium and the heavy rare earth elements (HREE) is
reported up to 80%, 90% and 70% respectively.
