HIAD.4 The student will read, notate, and perform all ascending and descending
major scales as per VBODA All-Virginia audition requirements, as well as selected
minor scales.
HIAD.5 The wind/mallet student will perform an ascending and descending chromatic
scale, as per VBODA All-Virginia audition requirements.
HIAD.12.3 The student will demonstrate and describe proper instrumental
techniques, including: describing and demonstrating contrasting articulations in the
music literature being studied.

C#, Db, Ab, Eb, and Bb natural, harmonic, and melodic minor scales
F and C natural minor scales

Objectives/Goals:
Student will be able to perform F and C natural, harmonic, and melodic minor scales
at 80 bpm in an ensemble setting.

Rehearsal schedule written on board.
Scale sheets for all students.

Closing:
Put away Chromebooks, Pack up instruments, put away chairs and stands

Assessment:
Informal assessment, students differentiating between natural, harmonic, and
melodic minor scales at around 90% success rate in ensemble setting. Students
demonstrating contrasting slur and staccato articulations in Clarke studies, His Honor,
and Hymnsong of Philip Bliss. Pinpoint note errors in sectional recordings of Ride.
