Vision of an Effective Educator

Any passionate educator would say; I want the best for my kids. But what does that
mean for me, more long hours of grading, tutoring or endless meetings? Being an
educator for me is about selfless service to the children, to better them and nurture a
love of learning. Sacrificing weekends or extra time to better talents in kids is just as
much part of the job description as grading tests.

Different teachers have different methods of instruction. One must always be willing to
adapt and change with the needs of the classroom. It can be challenging at first, almost
even daunting having more than 150 students, but manageable nonetheless.
Instruction needs to feel personal for auditory, visual and kinesthetic learners, and not
just depend on a series of worksheets. It is also important to note that proper
documentation is needed to monitor student progress to determine what methods are
most effective.

A teacher, not only instructs but acts as a role model for all students. Being held in high
esteem one must always have an air of professionalism. When a classroom becomes
disruptive or a few students act out, it is imperative that any teacher remains with a
calm tone of voice. Yelling or showing anger breaks the perception of a collected
professional. Proper handling of situations like this distinguishes master teachers, by
being able to maintain order in the classroom.

Ultimately, the key to being a successful teacher lies in the respect and relationships
one forms with students. Implementation of instruction, classroom management and
even student achievement all stem from that professional bilateral relationship.
Likewise, a teacher not only acts as an instructor, but as a mentor and role model.
