Opening keynote - Leading from the heart
Presenter: David McQueen
David McQueen, author, mentor and motivational speaker will be delivering a spirited talk
on the need for positive leadership to set the tone for the day’s event.

10.00 – 10.40
SESSION #1 - Networking & Communications skills

Great networkers make great leaders; they are individuals who realise that networking is a
life skill, not just something you do when you want something. They have created simple
systems that enable them to connect with others. This skills session will provide delegates
with top tips vital for enhancing their networking skill.

10.40 – 11.20
SESSION #2 - Team development
Presented by: Google Inc
Building a team and inspiring teamwork is a long process of learning. Experience shows that
many teams fail because they have no clear picture of their objective or what their purpose
is. Google Inc will be sharing their experience creating one of the world’s most admired work
environments.

11.20 – 12.00
SESSION #3 - Planning

If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. This session will explore the relevance of developing an
articulate structure around your events and activities to ensure you are always one step
ahead.

12.00 – 13.00 Lunch


All delegates unwind after a busy morning and get a chance to reflect on learning from the
morning, and network with other delegates while enjoying a light lunch.

13.00 – 13.40
Focus group
Delegates will work together in groups to create a mission statement for the African
Caribbean Society. This mission statement will form a collective principle for participating
ACS when they return to their respective university.

13.40 – 14.20
Panel discussion (Featuring ACS Stars of 2009/10)
Moderators: ‘R&R Show’ presenters Rosario Ogbechie & Raga Hamid (Warwick ACS)
After an academic year which saw Nottingham ACS awarded ‘Gold Society’ status by their
university! The panel discussion will bring back together the brains behind one of the most
spoken about ACS in the United Kingdom. The variation of events and activities organised
during the year included a collaborative ‘Sport Day Challenge’ involving seven universities.
They will be sharing some of the key challenges and lessons learnt during their ACS
leadership and their thoughts on how to make ACS more effective.

14.20 – 15.00
SESSION #4 - Presentation Skills
Presented by: Teach First
Presentation is the best way to communicate an ideas or information. It should be viewed as
a present from you to your audience, a bundle of brilliant thought provoking facts wrapped
up with professionalism and confidence. This session will provide delegates with tip on how
to present their ideas and build a better ACS community.

SESSION #5 - Special Guest – Leadership in a new decade

The future will be defined by the decisions we make today. Effective leadership remains a
day-to-day challenge in today’s global society. Our Special Guest will share their perspective
of the key elements of effective leadership with participating delegates in this thought
provoking session.

‘Pitch Your Idea’
Presented by: Ibrar Ali (Unltd)
Selected student entrepreneurs from the ACS community will be given an opportunity at this
year’s Summit to pitch to a panel (Dragon’s Den style) for the chance to win £5,000 funding
for their business idea ( ideas will be judged on their social impact).

18.00 – 20.00
Networking dinner & awards evening
The 2010 ACS Leadership Summit will conclude with a 3-course dinner, during which
attendees will be awarded with certificates of participation and network with sponsors.
