Title - FM or Internet Radio

SoundwaveFM

Why you have chosen FM

We have chosen to use an FM radio over and internet radio due to the fact that there is a better sound
quality. Our station is aimed at teenagers in college, all probably are very experienced with technology
and therefore know the difference between good and bad. This is hwy we feel it is important to have a
good sound quality as teenagers will lose interest if they dont enjoy listening to it due to its quality.

We also chose FM because the disadvantages we found for FM are all too complicated for a college
radio anyway so we would not need to worry about them, therefore that means there are no
disadvantages for a college radio station to use FM unless we wanted to make our station bigger and
branch out to a larger target audience.

The last reason we chose FM is because the disadvantages we found for podcast radios are much
more important to our target audience. For example, the internet is unreliable for teenagers, this is a
large problem, it makes people upset or angry as most teenagers use the internet daily and very often
each day. If the internet crashed they would believe it is the fault of the website rather than their
internet so it is important we dont lose listeners over this. Once people have listened to an internet
station once they may get bored and quickly move onto another station, whereas by using FM we can
surprise the listeners as they dont know what our specific production plan is, therefore they are more
likely to listen and see what happens and what music we play.

Regulations behind this option

FM does not require a license unless we play commercial music. This means that we cut down on
costs and any fines or copyright laws that we may get from playing certain music or promoting certain
artists

Licensing information

A broadcast license grants the license holder permission to use a portion of the radio in a given area,
but only for broadcasting purposes. The licenses generally include restrictions, which can vary
depending on the size of the radio you wish to set up and who will listen to it. This then helps the radio
station know its copyright laws and its regulations.
