Love Never Felt So Good – Michael Jackson
For Unit 10 I will be producing a music video that is targeted towards all age groups
and all genders. The aim is to create something that everyone will want to watch
but also find enjoyable. This may mean disregarding codes and conventions or
creating something that is a combination/based off other music videos. The ages I
am trying to target this music video towards are ages 10-18, 30-40 and 50-60.
The concept for my music video is to create an upbeat and lively music video that
everyone can enjoy. It will be to a song with a good tempo so I can experiment
more with effects and timing during the editing. The song I have chosen is Michael
Jackson’s Love Never Felt So Good. When choosing a song, I was originally looking
for a Michael Jackson song as I knew it would immediately help my music video
appeal to all ages. Then after looking through lists of his songs I found that most of
them already had iconic music videos that I could not compete with or the song did
not match what my target audience would want. This was when I decided to
choose Love Never Felt So Good. It has a very upbeat tempo, but the lyrics are
about love and cannot offend anyone. Just by putting a little time into choosing a
song it has really helped me target all audiences already as it fits the concept that I
wanted to use. The music video will have a very simple but noticeable storyline to
keep everyone engaged throughout the video. The video will include both males
and females, so it attracts all genders and it will include people of many different
ages. The actual storyline of the video is very simple but it is that you see love
progress over different ages. In the music video there will be shots of children having
fun together as neighbours and friends, but then as adults they develop their love
and end up together.

Why are you producing this production?
This production was my outcome of the brief given to us for unit 10. I have taken my
own approach and decided that this was what most of my target audience would
want to see. I want to be able to entertain the audience without anyone becoming
offended and without making a video that seemed too unprofessional. I would also
like to use this unit to improve my knowledge on creating surveys and listening to my
target audience. As we have been creating all of our work based around the results
of our surveys and focus groups, it is important that they are of a good quality. This is
something that I have now learnt about and will definitely be able to improve on
when creating surveys for my final major project.
My target audience for this project is everyone. That includes all genders and all
ages ranging from 10-60. We were given three age groups to aim our production
towards and they were 10-18, 30-40 and 50-60. These age groups cover most people
but they are also quite spread out so it will be easier to differentiate what each
group wants to see and if they have any similarities, how I can link them together.
I asked the questions about what parts included in the video made it feel a certain
way to learn about what I could incorporate into my music video. I discovered what
made people feel happy, sad and a sense of love so that when I went to write my
script it would be easier to include things that the audience would enjoy watching. I
have specifically used the results from Bruno Mars’ Uptown Funk as Happy was the
main feeling that people liked watching in a music video. Uptown Funk was also the
most like music video of the three I used as examples so it helps me know that I will
Page |4
be able to make every age group and gender happy if I use a happy themed music
video. You can see that of 26 respondents 14 said they preferred the upbeat and
colourful song. This is due to the song choice itself, the dance and the colours within
the video. Although it’s not in the results of the survey that the storyline is very
important I collected results from my focus groups that every individual said a
storyline was important.
Looking at the results of the survey on which music video most appealed and least
appealed you can see that Thinking Out Loud has a good balance of likes and
dislikes. The reason it was disliked was more due to the song itself but the theme of
love was the second most liked feeling that people liked to watch so therefore I
knew that if I chose a more widely appreciated song about love it would receive
more positive than negative feedback.

Lyrics Description of visuals
Baby, love never felt so good Shows man and women waking up on
split screen
Not like you hold me, hold me Both seen meeting in a hallway and
walking down together with happy and
loving emotions
Oh, baby, love never felt so fine Then seen brushing their teeth/doing
their hair/etc.. together in a bathroom
And I doubt if it's ever mine He leaves the house and walks off after
Not like you hold me, hold me saying goodbye lovingly.
And the night is gonna be just fine Sees woman sitting down at a desk
Gotta fly, gotta see, got to be She walks to her office and as she sits
down pans down to photo of two
children together with the time next to it
'Cause, baby, every time I love you Shows kids playing together having fun
Tell me, if you really love me The little girl falls over and the little boy
runs to help her
It's in and out my life, in out, baby He helps her up and she hugs him
So, baby, yes, love never felt so good Close shot of her getting out of the hug
and smiling at him lovingly.

The door reopens, and a man walks out
of his house to get to a point where he
Not like you hold me, can face both houses and then stands
there looking happy.
hold me
Pans around the back of the man’s
head
And the night is gonna be just fine
Gotta fly, gotta see, can't believe Pans around the front of the man’s
I can't take it head smiling
It's in and out my life, in out, baby Goes inside to see the man showing the
women what’s work is happening to the
house they are moving into
Tell me, if you really love me
Shows man and woman eating
together at a table looking very happy.
It's in and out my life driving me crazy
They start to clean up together and do
Baby, love never felt so good silly things like splash each other with
water.
Aw, baby, love never felt so good (so They start to play a board game and
good) fight with pillows etc.
Page |9
I can't take it It pans out of that frame back onto the
woman’s desk showing a much later
'Cause, baby, every time I love you time and the desk is a little messy.
It's in and out my life, in out, baby
She stands up
Tell me, if you really love me
It's in and out my life driving me crazy Constant cuts of adults getting ready
together
'Cause, baby, love never felt so good
Constant cuts of adults saying goodbye
Felt so good to each other for work/ going for walks
Never felt so good
Felt so good Kids walking to school together
Never felt so good
Never felt so good The man and are sat in the house
Never felt so good together looking through old photos
Never felt so good and the one of the children (the same
Alright that's fine, that's it one in the adult woman’s office) is seen
and then another photo of them when
they moved in together. The smile at
each other lovingly.

Contingency Plan
o Location
The locations outside I have planned to use are on a private property but as I
live in that property it will be okay for me to film there. I also have permission
from my neighbour, whose house I plan to film, to use that location. The inside
shots are inside my house so there will be no issue with location.
o Actors
My actors are either family members or neighbours. This means that it is easy
to communicate with them and they will have more flexibility to help me film
as they all live so near. However, when I planned to film I had to make sure I
did it quickly as my family members are going away over the weekend of the
26th. If I don’t have everything filmed by then I will either have to change my
script or change actors. It would be easier to change actors so the actors I
would use would be the children parents.
o Script
I have already had to change my script as the original was too complicated
for me in the time frame given and the equipment I had available to me. I
made the script follow the same storyline but in a simplified way so there
would not be much I had to change which saved me time.
o Props
The props I am using are everyday props so it will be very unlikely that they will
be unavailable for me to use
