alongthejointtobemade(ormovingthejointwithrespecttothelaserbeam)andresultsinweldswithahighdepthtowidth.Undertheactionofvapour
pressureandsurfacetension,themoltenmaterialattheleadingedgeofthekeyholeflowsaroundthecavitycreatedbythebeamtotheback,andsolidifiesto
formtheweld.Thisactionleavesatopbeadwithachevronpattern,whichpointstowardsthestartoftheweld.
