4th of July Celebration
Our scouts will present
the colors and lead us in the Pledge of
Allegiance at the beginning of our service
on Sunday. After church we will be
celebrating our independence with a hot
dog lunch. The church is providing the
lunch, so come dressed for the weather and
chill out with an ice cream sundae for
dessert

Changing Seasons
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all
men are created equal, that they are endowed, by
their Creator, with certain unalienable Rights, that
among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of
Happiness.
So go the opening lines of the preamble to the
Constitution of the United States of America.
What wonderful words and concepts:
We are all created equal.
We have the right to life.
We have the right to liberty, to be free from
oppression and slavery.
We have the right to pursue happiness.
God is the keystone of this country and our
founders certainly did recognize His importance
and influence.
Notice that we are not guaranteed happiness. God
does not promise us a life free from challenges and
obstacles; but we do have the right to seek
happiness.
God has given us free will to think and make
decisions four ourselves. He is with us to help us
make wise decisions so we can live meaningful
and happy lives; but, we must believe in him and
call upon him for his Grace.
Let us never forget to thank and praise God for our
many blessings, and especially for our country.
May God continue to bless us; and God Bless
America.

The custom of appointing clergy members to lead the
House of Representatives and the Senate of the
United States in prayer has continued with few
interruptions ever since Franklin prevailed in that
1787 argument. On April 25, 1789, the Senate
elected Samuel Provoost, Episcopal bishop of New
York, as its first chaplain, according to the website of
the current Senate chaplain.

JULY BIRTHDAYS Here’s the Scoop…
July 9 Wayne Hintz • Andrew Jelson has spent a week at

Dottie is ready to update the St. John’s
Memories Scrapbook, but it has disappeared! It
was last seen prior to the 125th Anniversary
Celebration. If you know where it is, please let
Dottie know or return it to the front table in the
parish hall.
Youth Service
June 6th was a Youth service to
recognize the youth at St. John's.
We appreciate their participation in
our services, everyone did a great
job! Andrew Jelson and Caroline
Burwell served as Lectors. Elise
Ford was the Acolyte and Will Ford,
the Crucifer. Our young ushers
were John Owen and Nicholas
Jelson. It was a pleasure to see our
youth serve our congregation.

Senior Warden’s Message
We are halfway through our anniversary year and
what a great year it has been! There is still lots more
planned for celebration. This Sunday, we celebrate
the 4th of July with a picnic at the parish hall. (In the
a/c!) Lianne and Camille will be organizing a wine
and cheese party at a later date, and we have been
offered the use of J-Bar-J Ranch again.
If anyone has any other suggestions, or would like to
plan something, please contact any member of the
vestry.
There will be a CPR class offered soon. Watch for
details on that.
Don't forget St. John's Lending Library. There is a
huge selection of books, including many for children.
No due dates and no fees! The library began with an
idea from John Larson and many parishioners have
contributed to it. Bonnie Onks keeps it organized,
and it is open to all.
