Pastor’s Pause: “Detox Your Life”
So then, let’s work for the good of all whenever we have an opportunity, and especially for
those in the household of faith. – Galatians 6:10 (CEB)
Nowadays it seems like we hear about many products that are readily available that claim to
“detox” your body. The premise is that toxins build up in your body and aren’t good for you
and you should get them out of your body. We know that people who use drugs - prescriptions
or illicit, build up residual toxins from those meds and if they go without the drugs, their body
starts a natural detoxification process that is often painful to experience. The same is true in
our spiritual lives, as we build up residuals that need to be eliminated. Some of the problems
are caused by our own sin, while other problems are caused by the sins of other people.
The good news is that we are able to help detox our lives by applying some appropriate
scriptures and practices.
I. Detox your past. The first step is to FORGIVE! This means that we must let go of all
bitterness, wrath, anger, and slander. Ephesians 4:31-31 reminds us - Be kind to one another,
tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you. Next, we
need to accept God’s forgiveness, along with rejecting the lies of false teaching.
II. Detox your present. The first step is to repent of our sins and change our ways. Then we
can allow ourselves to abide in Jesus Christ. This step may mean that we rid ourselves of toxic
people from our lives. We need to find a way to be at peace with all.
III. Detox your future. This means that we must plan ahead to keep out of sin’s way.
Each day we should wake up and ask God to give us strength.
What do you need to do today to detox your life? Who do you need to forgive? Of whom do
you need to seek forgiveness and reconciliation? Are you reconciled to God? It’s not too late
to detox your life!!
Blessings,
Pastor Bonnie

Between work, caring for family, and trying to have a life, single parents have their hands full. Pecometh
offers an opportunity for single parents and their kids to get away and spend some time together -and apart- at
camp! Programming will provide parents with spiritual support, encouragement, and an opportunity to relax,
while the kids are busy doing camp activities! The schedule also includes family and big-group activities, and
a "Parents' Night Off" while the kids have a movie night.
Accommodations provide the best of both worlds at Pecometh. Families sleep easy in hotel-style
accommodations, while enjoying meals at our Camp Dining Hall and lots of fun camp activities.
Churches are encouraged to sponsor participating families within their congregations. If you have any
questions about your church sponsoring a family for this retreat, please contact
Rev. Megan Shitama Weston at megan@pecometh.org. To learn more about the Single Parent
Retreat, or to register, visit https://www.pecometh.org/single-parent-family

Philippians 4:6 -Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with
thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
Dear Friends,
We pray you are doing well and enjoying all that is ours through Christ Jesus. Like many of you, our lives
have been a whirlwind the past few months with changes in covid regulations and substantial increases in the
cost of our daily needs. So many ups and downs. We rejoice that our Heavenly Father is in control and through
it all we have leaned heavily on Him. We want to take just a minute to celebrate the past few months of
ministry with you.
I thank my God upon every remembrance of you. Always in every prayer of mine making request for you and
with joy. For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now. Philippians 1:3-5
The Annual Conference of the Peninsula-Delaware Conference was held on June 16-18th using the online
platform. Certain aspects of the Conference were held in person with attendance by invitation only. Thursday
morning the clergy held their session and then in the afternoon, the laity session convened.
Bishop Latrelle Easterling opened the Laity Session in prayer. The theme of this year’s Conference was
Perseverance in Hope, Faith & Joy with scripture Hebrews 12:1-2, “running the race with perseverance”.
During this session we saw a video by the Conference Council on Youth Ministries and a presentation by
Ragghi Rain Calentine of CONAM (Native American) Ministries Committee. Rev. Dr. Rob Townsend was
the keynote speaker who gave a very inspirational message on persevering in troubling times and letting the
light of Christ shine even through our differences.
Friday was the day of the Plenary (business) sessions of the Conference. There were 14 Resolutions before the
body of clergy and laity this year. All passed, some with minor amendment. They can be found on the
Conference website. Highlights are:
1. No bishop nomination will come from our Conference this year.
2. 6% increase cost of living for pastors for 2023.
3. Creation Care/Justice Committee formed.
4. Transparency measures will be made to strengthen stewardship of Conference
funding, property decisions, grants, etc.
5. The budget was adopted as presented.
6. 4 Lower Shore churches and 1 Delaware church disaffiliated with the United
Methodist Church.
Reports were given by the Congo Partnership Committee, Disabilities Commission, CONAM (re: Boarding
Schools and generational trauma), Africa University (50th anniversary), Black College Fund (50th anniversary),
the Bishop’s Holy Land Pilgrimage 2023, Conference Appeals, etc.
Services were held for retirees, memorials, and ordination & commissioning by invitation in-person, otherwise
online.
We were encouraged to explore resources through Pecometh (beyond camping and some free to
congregations), to watch the podcast “The Unfinished Church”, and to keep abreast of news through the
Conference website www.pen-del.org.
The 2023 Annual Conference will be held on June 8-10, 2023, hopefully in person. If you have any questions
concerning any of the information I have shared, please contact Pastor Bonnie or me.
