Sunday: Ignite Service Kicks Off!
The 7pm service features contemporary songs by the Ignite worship
team and a message by Kim Parker. Come check it out and tell all
the college students you know! Were gathering in the coffee shop
(enjoy some free hot and iced coffee). This week, come a little early
for a free dinner at 5pm.
Say Yes Sunday on Aug. 27

The purpose of the Say Yes Board is to give people the
chance to put their faith in action by saying yes to serving
within and outside of the church. YES is a powerful word!
Say Yes Sunday will be a HUGE Sunday made up of the
following:
* Say Yes Board will be in The Connector for people
engage.
* Better Together Group Fair will be going on.
* The Connection Point will open as a place where
members and guest can get information and discover ways
to be connected.
What's a say yes board?
Check out the picture for an
example from another church.
Short descriptions of a
service/role a person can say
yes to will be on the cards.
Examples:
1. Love children with the
story of God's love one Sunday
a month. (Sunday School
Teacher)
2. Drive our guests from Hitt Street Garage one hour on
Sundays (Golf Cart Team)
(on the cards will be a place for your name and email, if
no email, then phone #)
The board will stay up for 3 weeks...
A very specific follow up process is in place that involves
both the office sending a thank you to those who signed
up and connecting them to leaders of said service.
We are at our best when we are growing and serving....
Better Together Fair
At the same time, Better Together Group facilitators will
be at tables to sign you up and answer questions and give
you info about groups. I heard that there will be some
better together type snacks on hand (peanut butter cups,
blow pops, cheese and crackers, etc..)
The Connection Point Opens
This is the "desk" where guests and members can go to
find about church happenings and get connected. It
will also be the place for guests to receive a gift for
worshiping with us. This is the newest initiative in
hospitality. Say Yes cards to serve will be on the board
and at the Connection Point for you who want to be in the
know and connect people to opportunities that will shape
their faith.
You might imagine that the sermon that Sunday will be
Say Yes! I'm looking forward to seeing this day come
together. I love a good buzz and that's what we'll hear on
Say Yes Sunday. More than that, it's a day for you to put
your faith in action.

Sign Up for Dinner Club
MUMC Dinner Club is made up of groups of six to eight
people choosing to either dine-in or dine-out. Groups are
formed twice a year, September and January. Signing
up for Dinner Club precedes each period. Groups are then
assembled by the Dinner Club Coordinators. Dine-In meets
in the homes of their group members for a potluck
meal. Dine-Out meets in restaurants chosen by members
for either lunch or dinner (Dutch treat). We hope you will
join us! What better way to become more acquainted
with our wonderful church family. Email Gloria Taylor,

Notebook Donation Thanks
Many thanks to those who contributed 1032 spiral
notebooks (24/case) last week! Thats a good beginning
toward Rainbow Networks request for 36,000 for school
children in the 144 villages in Nicaragua where they serve.
Spiral notebooks are currently on sale for 25 cents each
in many stores. Can you give a case, or two, or ten???
Other school supplies needed include: crayons, colored
markers, #2 lead pencils with erasers, ink pens, rulers
with metric measurements, backpacks, pencil sharpeners,
white school glue, colored construction paper, school
scissors, and white copy paper reams or boxes. These
school supplies may be delivered to the PET warehouse,
1908 Heriford Rd., or placed in the large blue barrel in
the MUMC Connector. Container Project volunteers will
pack the items received for shipment to Nicaragua later
this fall.
20- & 30-Somethings Kickoff BBQ
Aug. 27 from 5-6:30pm in the Courtyard for all those
in their 20s and 30s! Also, coming soon: 20- and

Bishop Farr on Charlottesville

On Aug. 13, Missouri Bishop Bob Farr issued a statement
in response the violence that occurred during
demonstrations in Charlottesville. Read his letter at

charlottesville-9023996. Heres an excerpt:
Jesus said: Let me give you a new command: Love
one another. In the same way I loved you, you love
one another. This is how everyone will recognize
that you are my discipleswhen they see the love
you have for each other John 13:35-37 (MSG). Hate
speech and violence makes one unrecognizable as a
disciple of Jesus. Fellow disciples, let us resist and
name evil, confess the hardness of our own hearts,
and demonstrate love for one another.
We, as The United Methodist Church, are called for
more. We must witness to others what prayer can do
in times of fear and hate. We must demonstrate what
action can do in the resistance of evil. Pray for the
loss of life and the injured. Pray for those acting out
of hate. Pray for the restoration of civil order for the
community of Charlottesville. Pray for the strength
to resist evil present in all our communities. Pray
that God will heal us and build his kingdom here.
