Pastor’s Pause: “God Speaking To Us”

Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”

- 1 Samuel 3:10

How many times during the week do you receive phone calls from an unknown number?
Most of the time we just let those calls go to voicemail. Once in a while you might answer
a call. What a surprise when the caller isn’t trying to sell you something, they simply want to
share a scripture with you and then ask if they can pray with you! Any time someone asks if
they can pray with me, I usually say, “I will take all the prayers I can get!”

There are a number of call stories in the Bible, especially in the Old Testament – Abraham,
Moses, Jonah, and Samuel, just to name a few. Samuel was a young boy when God called
out to him in the middle of the night. The call came to him three times before he realized that
it was actually God who was calling. Then Samuel replied, “Speak, for your servant is
listening.” On our daily journey, are there times that God may be trying to speak to us?
If you are not sure how to respond to that question, maybe it is time slow down and spend
more time with God, listening for his voice.

Here's another thought… maybe there are times when we are meant to be the messenger of
God’s words to someone else. Right now, some of you are saying, “No, not me! How can I
help others?” It might be as simple as calling a friend or family member and asking,
“Would it be okay if I pray with you today?” What words of encouragement can you share
with others?
