UMC pulpit. If you were not able to make it to church on Sunday, July 2nd, allow me to introduce myself.
I am your new pastor. If you did not “get the memo” earlier, YES, there have been some changes. I am
Rev. Elizabeth Marrero, of Puertorrican ascend and conceived, born, and raised a Methodist; actually a
fourth generation Methodist, IF that is worth anything to you.
Through my life’s journey, I have experienced many, many changes. And, each and every time I have
fuzzed even since before the change started. Changes are never easy and they are not because we are
beings of habits. Reality is that changes are necessary. For example, think about a grain, a bean. You
know, one of those that you buy dry of the supermarket’s shelf. Up until then, it has been living in a
“steady” atmosphere. Undisturbed. BUT, the moment come when we decide to give it some purpose,
put it to . . . work? Well, whether it is to bake them, make some refritos, or plant them, those seeds
need to be transformed.
We just celebrated the 4th of July, a date in which we commemorate the colonies separation from
Great Britain. In order for that to happen, sadly, blood was shed, friends were “un-friended” and other
relationships were formed. It was a HUGE step for this nation to become independent. There was a lot
of pain, yet there was a lot of joy accompanied with great hopes.
Sadly, Calvary-Asbury UMC was separated from its long time affiliate St. Paul UMC in Ingleside.
However, each continues to serve the same God under the same banner slogan: Making disciples
of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
On the same token, we will be forming new relationships, exploring new opportunities, and enjoying
new adventures. Just like in the day of Pentecost, new horizons opened and the true meaning of
Pentecost became a reality, a celebration.
Join us as we begin to explore and taste the new beginnings our good God has in store for us to
enjoy.
Peace’n Grace,
Pastor Liz
