Demonstrate Teaching Excellence

It is my goal to help all student teachers achieve at their highest level. They are
expected to demonstrate understanding of eleven standards. It is important for me
to model the eleven standards as a teacher. Below are my goals related to the
eleven standards. Accomplishment of the goals will help me strive for excellence.
1. Communication with my students helps me know individuals strengths and
challenges. The communication is often in person or through emails. Last
semester, I began each seminar with students reflecting in writing. My goal
is to continue varied strategies to communicate with students so I will know
more about each individual.
2. Once I know the individuals, I can use a variety of strategies to help them
achieve at high levels. It is my goal to make each student teacher valued,
respected, and successful.
3. Creating an environment which promotes respect, learning, and cooperation
is very important to me. My goal is to always show enthusiasm, respect,
cooperation, and knowledge on subjects.
4. My experiences of teaching, learning, and leading as an administrator guides
my decisions to plan effective syllabi, seminars, observations, post-
conferences, and evaluations. Its my goal is make learning meaningful for
all student teachers.
5. Engaging student teachers in critical thinking activities at Seminars is
important. My goal is that my planned activities allow students to think,
grow, and resolve real life issues.
6. Utilizing a variety of assessments to evaluate student teachers is practiced
and valued. My goal is to continue collecting assessment data and spend
more time analyzing the data that is reported.
7. Each semester, its important to plan for student teachers learning based on
the UMF student teacher expectations, University of Maine policies, state
laws, and federal laws. My goal is continue my participation in meetings
with colleagues and to shape the future.
8. Utilizing a variety of instructional strategies when working with student
teachers allows me to do what I loveteach. My goal is to learn strategies
that keep me and my students motivated. The motivation should increase
students engagement and learning.
9. Reflecting on seminars, meetings, assessment data, learning activities, and
communication with others helps me strive for excellence and become a
better teacher. My goal is to take more time to reflect.
10. Collaborating with colleagues allows organizations to build shared visions,
plan strategically, identify common goals, and evaluate progress. My goal is
to collaborate with others to strengthen UMF programs.
11.Utilizing technology to complete tasks is where I feel most comfortable. My
goal is to become more capable and confident of my technology skills
including iObservation.
Feedback
Each semester, I review the feedback I receive from my student teachers. Below
are my average scores of the evaluation named Field Supervision Student
Evaluation of Supervisor. A score of 4 is the highest level.
Fall 2016 3.6 Spring 2016 3.6
Fall 2015 3.6 Spring 2015 3.5
Fall 2014 3.5 Spring 2014 3.7
Fall 2013 3.7 Spring 2013 3.7
One question on the evaluation is: What did you find to be the most supportive and
useful aspects of your student teaching experience, including the seminar topics
that were most valuable to you? Below are student responses to this question. I
believe they support my communication, instruction, and clinical supervision
skills.
Her patience and knowledge about the topics we covered. She taught the same
way we should teach. Dayle Jordan 12/16
The most useful aspect for me was receiving feedback and having a post
conference after each observation. I am a student who learns best through
collaboration with others, so it was good for me to have those discussions after
observations. Hannah Johnson 12/16
My supervisor was always extremely helpful and understanding. Colleen
Tourigny 5/16
Deb was very encouraging and supportive throughout my experience. I felt like I
could ask her anything I needed in any way necessary. Katherine Werner 5/16
One student teacher wrote a note to me at the end of a semester. Deb, with warm
appreciation for all youve given of your time, your energy, and yourself. I truly
appreciate everything. You worked hard for all of us! Amanda Ledue 12/16
A UMF faculty member wrote, I enjoyed getting to work with you a little this
year! One benefit of the TEU work. While I dont believe we were in groups
together, I did find your comments very valuable! UMF student teachers are so
lucky to have you! Cara 7/16
Based on student feedback, an area that I want to improve on is reviewing student
teacher assignments. Some complain that I spend too much time on the
assignments at the Seminars and others want me to spend more time reviewing the
assignments at the Seminars.
This semester, Im going to try the following:
1. After each post-conference, Im going to ask the student if they have any
questions about assignments and assist.
2. Im going to allow students to leave the Seminar fifteen minutes early if they
understand an assignment. Students who want additional assistance, they can
stay.
