SelFish
2D Bullet Hell
What if the fishes in your fish tank werent living the unremarkable life you
thought they did? What if your fish had guns?

Summary
In a fish tank far, far away, there is a little fish called Stephen. He is the weakest fish of them
all and always has to fight for his food but he always gets the leftovers. Stephen is tired of
being at the bottom of the barrel, he decides to take care of the problem once and for all and
bring justice to the fish tank. He grabs his gun and goes on an adventure to end the tyranny.
Stephen has to fight his way through the hordes of enemies and obstacles that will appear
along the way. Stephen will not make this alone so he has to save some of his friends to
surpass the difficult tasks along the way. Through his journey he will discover that something
lies behind the disappearance of the food, the octopus Octavious has established a dictatorship
making him the absolute authority in the fish tank. After defeating Octavious followers and
guards, Stephen adventures into the castle to defeat Octavious and restore the peace to the fish
tank once and for all.

Target Audience
Selfish is a satiric and sometimes humoristic cartoonish frenetic violent shooting challenge to
an audience that is used to watching shows like Southpark, Rick and Morty and Spongebob
around the ages of 8 to 18. The game is also targeted to parents who enjoy playing with their
kids, since the game offers a satiric humor enjoyable by both ages. The target audience would
notice the game because of its appealing design or simple and fun gameplay.

What does the player do?

The player in SelFish plays as a small and weak fish called Stephen. The bigger fishes steals
all the food, so one day Stephen decides that it has to come to an end. He grabs his gun and
goes out on an adventure to seek revenge. Deeper in the fishtank he discovers that something
else is behind the disappearing of the food. Players will use a variety of arms to defeat the
horde of enemies that will spawn, or prawn, in the screen. Shooting and dodging will be the
main activities. Some encounters will feature a miniboss that is stronger than the regular
enemy, having more health and having a different mechanic. Stephen will also encounter
some obstacles that he will have to surpass. After clearing a level Stephen will go deeper into
the fish tank until he defeats all the enemies and finds what is behind the mystery.

Bosses
Bosses will spawn in certain levels and will offer different challenges to the player.
-Owner: The Owner notices that his fish are dying all because of Stephen so he tries to get
him before he kills everyone. The fight consists of the owner sticking his hand into the fish
tank trying to catch Stephen. Each time Stephen gets hit by the hand he loses a life and when
he is out of lives he gets caught and the player loses. For Stephen to defeat the owner he has
to shoot him in the arm while dodging the hand. Getting high up in the fish tank will make the
arm be above the surface so Stephen cannot hit the arm. The owner has two phases one where
he sticks his hand vertically into the fish tank and pulls it out again or follows you with the
hand. The second phase starts when the owner is below 50% health and becomes angry
making him faster and instead of chasing Stephen with the hand he uses a net that covers a
bigger area and making Stephen unable to shoot his arm.
-School fish: In this encounter Stephen will face a school of fish. This boss is very fast and
will cross the screen trying to damage Stephen. The school of fish at one point will stay in one
part of the screen and will throw individual fishes(similar to a bullet) at Stephen, when the
boss is out of his main defenses (that he used as bullets) he will reveal his weak spot and
Stephen will have the opportunity to shoot at him. The school of fish will split depending on
its health. The same mechanic is applied for all the school of fishes. Each school of fish will
have its own health making it split individually, the more the school of fish there are the more
things happen on the screen but for every split they have less health. After splitting several
times each the school of fish will become small and will not be able to split anymore so it gets
destroyed after reaching 0 health.
-Octavious: The final boss Octavious is the last and hardest encounter Stephen will face.
Octavious will send his followers for a final attempt to stop Stephen. Stephen will be
surrounded by his followers giving him no escape. Stephen will have to dodge the bullets
coming from the enemies surrounding him. His movements are limited so he will have to
dodge and move in the little area that is left. This area will start moving across the screen.
Colliding with an enemy will make Stephen lose health. After dodging and killing enemies
(that constantly are replaced when defeated), Octavious comes into play when he has had
enough so he will stop Stephen by himself. In this second phase Octavious will try to kill
Stephen with his tentacles so Stephen cannot go close to him because he will get hurt.
Octavious is not fast because he is fat so he starts spinning his tentacles, pulling everything
towards him. Stephen will have to swim in the other direction to not get caught. Octavious
will also throw the food at Stephen damaging him. After taking some damage Octavious will
spray some ink (like a flamethrower) and if Stephen gets hit he will not see anything for some
seconds. When Octavious gets low on health he will start using his attacks more frequently
and simultaneously.

Unique Selling Points

- SelFish is a bullet hell single player game with a design that makes a satiric ambience,
created by the cartoonish and innocent style contrasting with the weapons and the violence.
- A dictatorship among fishes has been established by Octavious and the main protagonist
uses guns to fight his way through the tyranny.
- Small fish, big guns.
- Bad fish puns (Prawn point, Krilling spree, Anyfin is possible, Ofishall)
- Deep meaning behind game title SelFish, fishes that live in a selfish society where power
is everything and it is controlled by a supreme leader that rules after his own desires.
- Boss fights, wave system.
- Two types of weapons depending on the ammo. Pebbles and bubble guns. Bubble guns
shoot faster less damage with a small knockback. Pebble guns shoot larger bullets that deal
more damage. Ammo is infinite.
- Through playing you gain two unique allies, Stanley and Roxy, who help you out in battle.
The allies work as powerups and can be summoned only a certain number of times in each
level. Stanley is a pufferfish and puffs up in a location set by the player, killing all enemies in
that area. Roxy is an angelfish, and swims through the screen in a direction set by the player,
killing every enemy in her path.
- All threats cannot be killed, only avoided. The last two levels present environmental hazards
like giant eels and dangerous crabs to boost the difficulty as the player advances.
- As the challenge grows, the player is also rewarded with a well-earned breather. This is
presented in the form of mysterious chests and clam shells that offer a health pickup.

Soundtrack
In the beginning of the game before the action begins there is calm music. Like a calm ukulele
song. When the action begins the music becomes more intense, similar to the music in the
game DOOM. The bosses have unique intense soundtracks to make it more exciting.
