I am writing to express my interest in the position of Assistant Principal at Springfield

Middle School. My work experience as a Middle School Band Director, and excellent
organizational and communication skills would prove to be an asset in an administrative
position.

I have been working with Washington County Public Schools as an Instrumental Music
teacher since August 2004. From August 2004 through June 2012 I worked as an
itinerant Elementary Band and Orchestra teacher, and in that time I piloted band and/or
orchestra programs at six Elementary schools. Being an itinerant teacher required strong
organization and communication skills to work effectively with several different groups
of students, parents, and teachers.

In 2012 I accepted the position as Band Director at Springfield Middle School. During
my tenure there I have increased the overall enrollment in the Band program by 25%. I
have also been the liaison to the Band Boosters organization and have helped to increase
parent involvement. I conduct several after school ensembles, including the Jazz
Ensemble, and Marching Band. Several of the groups have performed in the community
including a performance on Veterans Day, and a performance in our local City Park for
Swingin in the Park. Finally, the eighth grade Band regularly receives Superior ratings
at the Middle School Band Assessment and advanced to the Maryland State Band
Assessment where they received Superior and/or Excellent ratings.
