Accredited Operations Specialist

The Accredited Operations Specialist (AOS) is an educational course curriculum

designed to achieve a complete understanding of the concepts and criteria to
develop a comprehensive world class Management and Operations program for a
critical facility. AOS provides critical facility operators fundamental and practical
knowledge of the process and criteria for the Management & Operations (M&O)
Stamp of Approval and Tier Certification of Operational Sustainability.
Professionals undertaking the AOS course will achieve a thorough understanding
of Operational Sustainability and the processes and the knowledge required to
implement the industry-recognized behaviors that drive critical facility excellence.

The AOS operations-oriented curriculum covers a set of industry recognized

benchmarks and global standard practices that have been proven to promote effective critical facility operations
and reduce human errorthe leading cause of critical facility outages. The course will have students participate in
six training exercises to enhance learning and gain practical experience that can then be effectively applied at their
critical facilities. Uptime Institute believes that regardless of the underlying design and infrastructure of a facility,
well-informed management practices, systematic and documented policies and procedures, and effective training
regimens, when applied and followed consistently, can insulate a critical facility from the majority of downtime risk.

AOS Curriculum Description
AOS is intended for professional operations managers,
facility managers, and those involved in the business
of operations across the critical facility.
This course is three days of intensive instruction
and hands-on exercises that cover the key
concepts of critical facility operations. The
curriculum covers the critical functional areas in
operations and culminates in an examination.
Successful completion of the examination results in
Uptime Institute recognition of the individual as an
AOS. An online roster of valid AOS awardees will
be maintained on the Uptime Institute web page.
The AOS course is delivered and maintained by
Uptime Institute. The course is administered by
senior faculty with field experience in the practical
application of the Tiers, Operational Sustainability,
and M&O Stamp of Approval criteria worldwide.
At Uptime Institutes full discretion, an AOS award For the AOS Expert Qualification:
may be suspended or revoked pending abuse
of the terms of this curriculum or any aspect of
Uptime Institute award programs. AOS is not
equivalent nor substitute for Tier Certification
or M&O Stamp of Approval authority. Uptime
Institute Professional Services retains the
exclusive right to Certify designs and facilities to
the Tier Classification System, and Operational
Sustainability and M&O Stamp of Approval criteria.

AOS Qualifications
Progress further with your professional education by
continuing with AOS curriculum. Uptime Institute has
added Professional and Expert qualifications beyond
the Specialist designation.
For the Specialist qualification:
Successfully pass the AOS course
For the AOS Professional qualification:
You must have published content in
Uptime Institute media in the last 3 years
Have successfully completed two Professional
Seminars
- - One Professional Seminar requirement may
be waived if you are an active member of the
Uptime Institute Network and have presented a
case study at an Uptime Institute Network event
in the last 3 years.
Achieve AOS Professional and published an article
in Uptime Institute media in the last 3 years
Have successfully completed two additional
Professional Seminars (4 total)
Satisfy either of these two qualifications:
- - Active member of the Uptime Institute Network
and presented case study at event in last
three years
- - Three years of experience at a site that has
achieved and maintained Tier Certification of
Operational Sustainability or
M&O Stamp of Approval
Professional and Expert credentials expire in three
years and can be renewed by taking an additional
Professional Seminar.
