Medieval Serbian Temni inscription engraved on the limestone, 11th century, one of
the oldest records of Serbian redaction of Old Church Slavonic Cyrillic script from the
territory of Serbia.
The limestone plate, dimensions 19.5 x 19.5 x 5 cm, was discovered 1910. in the village
of Gornji Katun, near Varvarin, in the region of Temni in Pomoravlje, central Serbia.
The inscription on the plate was skillfully engraved in uncial Cyrillic in seven rows. The
short text contains the names of ten of the Forty Martyrs of Sebaste: Xantius, Leontius,
Melito, Severian, Philoctimon, Angius, Heraclius, Ecdicius, Cyrius, and a plea: "Pray for
us!".
Given the paleographic characteristics of the script and the linguistic analysis of the
text, most of the researchers believe that this inscription dates to the 11th century.

Srednjevekovni srpski Temniki natpis ugraviran na krenjaku, 11. vek, jedan od
nastarijih irilinih natpisa staroslovenske pismenosti u Srbiji i na Balkanskom
poluostrvu.
Pronaen je 1910. godine u selu Gornji Katun kod Varvarina, centralna Srbija.
Kamena ploa dimenzija 19.5 x 19.5 x 5 cm sadri imena 10 od 40 sevastijskih
muenika - Ksantije, Sisinije, Leontije, Meliton, Severian, Filoktimon, Angije, Iraklije,
Ekdikt, Kirion i molbu molite Boga za nas!, a pojavljuje se i oblik akuzativa jednine
imenice Bog ( umesto ), karakteristian za srpsku redakciju staroslovenskog
jezika.
