# of existing cases: 2
total population examined: 25
factor of 100

2/25= 0.08= 8%

2. What is the point prevalence of PTB at the beginning of year 10?

# of existing cases: 5
total population examined: 23
factor of 100

5/23= 0.217= 21.7%

3. What is the outcome of individual #19 within the risk period of

20 years? Is individual #19 considered an incident case or not?
Why?
Individual #19 died at year 16 of follow up, however did not
have the disease. Individual #19 is not considered an
incidence case because in the course of follow-up, #19 died
from other causes and therefore removes #19 at risk of the
disease.

4. Individual #1 contributes 9 person-years. What does this mean?

It means that individual #1 was at risk for 9 years. When he
got the disease, he is no longer at risk of the disease being
studied.

5. What is the contribution of individual #2? What does this mean?

Individual #2 did not get the disease nor died in the 20 years
of follow up, which means he contributes 20 person-years of
follow-up time. This means that he adds 20 years of person-
years to the total person-years for all 25 individuals.
