A UP Symphonic Band Holy Week Concert Presentation

DESCRIPTION:
This Holy Week concert presentation by the UP Symphonic Band will be the
Philippine Premiere of Ferrer Ferrans great masterpiece Sinfona No. 2 La
Passi De Crist, a three-movement large symphonic work for Band based on
the writings about the life of Jesus Christ. The First Movement is about Birth,
Slaughter of the Innocent and Baptism; the Second Movement is about the
Three Temptations; and the Third Movement depicts the Arrival at the
Temple, The Last Supper, Arrest, Crucifixion, and Hope. Opening the program
will be Richard Strauss Finale of Death and Transfiguration, Op. 24, a tone
poem that about the last hours of a man, presumably an artist, who has
striven for the highest ideals. The concert will be conducted by UP
Symphonic Bands Musical Director / Conductor Prof. Rodney D.S. Ambat of
the UP College of Music.

The concert will also feature another great masterpiece for symphonic band,
The Divine Comedy Symphony by Robert W. Smith which is based on Dante
Alighieris epic. The Symphony consists of four movements: Inferno,
Purgatorio, Ascencion and Paradiso. The performance will end with Give Us
This Day; a two movement symphony by David Maslanka. This piece has had
hundreds of performances in the United States and around the world, and
never fails to energize both bands and audiences.
