The Sorors of Omega Mu Zeta Chapter continues their year

of PEARLfection! On January 5, 2017, the Chapter, in
collaboration with the East Brunswick Police Department,
conducted a ZDefense course on
personal and home safety. Patrol-
man Craig Hoover of the Community Policing Division discussed techniques to remain
safe in your home and in various public places. This event was informative and suc-
cessful.

The program was well attended by the community and Patrolman Hoover gave practi-
cal tips such as:

1. Locating the exits when entering any venue

2. Remaining alert and attentive in your environment (no texting
and walking)
3. Using care with social media; especially privacy settings and posts
about being away from home
4. Keeping at least a half tank of gas in your car.
5. Providing the exterior of your home with ample and sufficient lighting.

oped a dinner menu, prepared and
served a complete meal to those in

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated Zeta Del-

ta Zeta Chapter (ZDZ), in collaboration with
Jack and Jill of America, Inc., (Incorporated
Burlington/ Willingboro) hosted a private view-
ing of Hidden Figures on January 7, 2017.
More than 100 people were in attendance to
view the untold story of three brilliant African
American female STEM (Science Technology,
and Engineering Math) pioneers working at
NASA during an era of systemic racism, sexism,
and segregation. Katherine G. Johnson, Dorothy
Vaughan and Mary Jackson were integral to the
success of one of the greatest space flights in
history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into
orbit. Our guests (adults and children) left the
theater eager to learn more about the Women in
Hidden Figures and became inspired to get
young people engaged in STEM activities

Leading up to our event, ZDZ launched a robust

social media campaign (which reached approximately 1000 people) to mobilize communities to support the
film and increase community action and dialogue. After viewing the movie, ZDZ Amicettes and Pearlettes
were invited to participate in our Facebook discussion about the not so hidden messages in the film and its
impact on the lives of young people. The youth shared thoughtful comments about the importance of persever-
ance, resilience, and sisterly support when pursuing academic goals.

The Gamma Nu Zeta Chapter Family

(Camden/Camden County, NJ) celebrated their
#MLKDay and #20MHoursofService volun-
teering at three different project sites today!
Our Graduate members, along with our youth
and Amicae, packed food baskets, gift/food
items and made placemats at Croft Farms Art
Center. Our Undergrads (Theta Omicron Chap-
ter) packed food packages and toiletries at Rut-
gers University-Camden to be handed out to
the homeless. Our Youth and Graduate mem-
bers organized place settings, tidied up and
served a great meal at Cathedral Kitchen to
those in need in our city. Each day for the
Gamma Nu Zeta Chapter family is a day on;
not a day off! However, we enjoyed this spe-
cial day, not only because it's our Founders'
Day but because we got to work with people in
our surrounding communities/counties as well.

Gamma Nu Zeta Chapter volunteered their time on Christmas

Day to serve an awesome hot meal and token gifts to those in
need at New Mickle Baptist Church in Camden, N.J. It was a
great day to fellowship and to serve those in need.

On December 17th, Gamma Nu Zeta Chapter

conducted two service projects. One was an
annual event with the Brothers of Zeta Rho
Sigma Chapter; hosting a holiday party for children involved with DCPP.
#GNZ1948 provided a candy table that the kids always enjoy. (IMG 0410)
Our Archonettes and Advisors served their time at Cathedral Kitchen serving
meals on that particularly cold day.

Chapter Holiday Party

AAXZ hosted its Second Annual Chapter Holiday Party on Decem-

ber 17th to close out 2016 with a bang! The sisterly outing was
filled with laughter, games, food, music and love. Each member
was a Secret Santa and was able to be a blessing and be blessed by
another soror. The holiday party is another opportunity for the
Chapter to bond and truly exemplify Sisterhood. The holiday party
closes out the year on a great note and ushers the Chapter into the
New Year.

Holiday Party at Monmouth Care Center

On Tuesday, December 20th, the Ladies of AAXZ and the Brothers of Iota
Chi Sigma Chapter Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. joined together to bring
laughter and joy to the lives of residents at Monmouth Care Center in Long
Branch, NJ. AAXZ and Iota Chi Sigma partnered together with gift dona-
tions to donate to residents who were in need. The giving did not stop with
physical donations, but members from both Chapters assisted with the resi-
dents holiday party where they served food, played games or simply lent an
ear for conversation. The residents were overjoyed and truly thankful.

Christmas Toy Donation

On Christmas morning the ladies of AAXZ partnered with

Shiloh Community Fellowship Ministries at the Asbury
Park Transportation Center for their last community service
act of the year. AAXZ was able to touch the lives of many
with moments of love, laughter and goodwill with toy do-
nations from the U.S. Marines and Toys for Tots. Commu-
nity members in need came in numbers to receive toys of
their choice for their children. For the second year in a row,
AAXZ has committed to serving the community on Christ-
mas morning in hopes of making one child happy and one
parent grateful.

Wreaths Across America

Members of the Dedicated AAXZ Chapter participated in
Wreaths Across America on Saturday, December 17th. Wreaths that were donated from July through December
were delicately placed on the grave sites of several beloved veterans at the Atlantic View Cemetery. In remem-
brance and honor of those who sacrificed for our freedom, AAXZ has committed to recognize them for the
second year in a row through solicitation of wreath donations and wreath-laying.

Blue and White Trivia Night

On Wednesday, February 8th, 2016 the Xi Iota Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta So-
rority Inc. co-hosted a Black History themed trivia night alongside the
Brothers of the Kappa Epsilon Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc.
The event began with a 40 minute Trivia Game geared towards testing the
audiences knowledge of notable black figures and pivotal events in Black
History. We learned a lot from these various questions and it helped us
bring the community closer. Afterwards everyone broke up into small
groups and played various board and card games (UNO, Spades, Twister,
and Taboo). This event brought out about 35 students and we are looking
forward to hosting more events during the Spring semester.

MLK National Day of Service

On January 16th, 2016, sorors from the Everlasting Xi Iota Chapter not only celebrated 97 years of
service within Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., but were also able to pay homage to the late Rev. Dr. Martin
Luther King Jr. by volunteering at various service sites. Soror Mays, Soror McCall, Soror Italis and So-
ror LaPlante volunteered at Cerebral Palsy New Jersey (CPNJ), where we participated in arts and craft
activities. Also Soror Plange-Kaye, Soror Matthew and Soror Geese helped make PB&J sandwiches for
the homeless. We had a great time giving back to the community and we look forward to volunteering
throughout the semester.

Beta Alpha Rho Zeta Chapter continues the good work of Zeta
Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. as they plant roots and make connections
with the residents of Somerset County. On January 16th, the
Chapter not only committed to a Church beautification project
with Watchung Ave. Presbyterian Church but they also partnered
with Jersey Cares to bring sunshine and happiness to the residents
of a Bridgewater Group Home through arts and crafts. It is here
they were able to meet up with members of Alpha Kappa Alpha
Sorority, Inc. for community service and collaboration.

On February 20th, Beta Alpha Rho Zeta Chapter represented well

at the Somerset County Committee Black Caucus celebration of
Black History Month. Councilwoman Keiona Miller organized a
great celebration that offered presentations, speakers, dancers and
networking. The Chapters own Lytanda Suzette Zellner present-
ed and recognized Dr. Willa Cofield for her contributions to the
civil rights of African Americans, Women and voting. Congress-
man Donald Payne Jr. was the keynote speaker. He reminded us
to stay engaged and speak out regarding matters that impact our
community and the well being of our country.

On Feb. 21st BAPZ Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority,

Inc. volunteered at Feeding Hands Pantry, Emmanuel
Church in Somerville, N.J. What a wonderful feeling
it is to help others during a vulnerable time in their
lives!

On February 11th, BAPZ celebrated their incarnation

with their first Party w/a Purpose Fundraiser and
Community Service Event. While it was a success as a
fundraiser and community service project, the outpour-
ing of support from Zeta and Sigma Chapters and fellow
Greeks made it much more valuable. Our Chapter would
like to thank everyone who supported physically and in
spirit. While it has not been determined if this will be a
signature event, they are excited about the many re-
quests and realistic possibility. Please stay tuned to see
what happens next.
