FADE IN TO:
MAGGIE
Somebody help us! Get help!
The Guard shoots up from his desk and approaches the couple.
GUARD
Ma'am, calm down. What happened?
MAGGIE
I don't know. We were just walking
down the street, and then...
KYLE, twenties, faking the injury the whole time, looks up..
MAGGIE (cont'd)
BAM!
MAGGIE (cont'd)
He was on the ground.
KYLE
Not bad.
2.
MAGGIE
Told you those acting lessons would
come in handy one day.
MAGGIE (cont'd)
You got this?
KYLE
You didn't drag me along for my good
looks, right?
MAGGIE
We're in.
The side door opens and THREE PEOPLE jump out and PARACHUTE
TO THE GROUND!
The Three safely land on the ground, but are soon confronted
by the Security Guards.
And finally...
3.
MIKA
We got it from here. Meet us at the
rendezvous point.
THANE
Progress?
KYLE (O.S.)
All alarms disabled. We've got some
guards inside, waiting on you.
THANE
We'll handle that.
(to the team)
Let's move.
Thane pulls out two vials of this Blue liquid, tosses them
towards the doors and...
THANE
Nicely done.
4.
Once the path is clear, they move through sets of doors, and
up some stairs until they reach...
THANE
(into the radio)
We're here. Open them.
The wall panel changes from RED to GREEN. The Doors open.
VAUGHAN
People coming.
THANE
(to Mika)
Would you like to take this one?
Mika waits for them. She opens her trench coat and we see...
MIKA
(in Japanese)
We're good here.
MAGGIE (O.S.)
Thane, we got a swarm of hostiles
coming your way and fast!
THANE
Get out of there. We'll get to the
tunnels as fast as we can.
The three of them make their way towards the elevator at the
end of the Hallway.
A Guard turns the corner after them. Mika hurls a knife that
catches the Guard right IN THE FACE!
GUARD
Find them!
Kyle and Maggie exit the facility and board their Hover Car,
peeling out as fast they can.
Thane's team swims through the deep waters, until they reach
the open water, and make their way up to the surface.
The team comes up out of the water and walk onto the sand,
removing their breather helmets.
Vaughan shoots a FLARE with his Flare Gun into the air.
DISSOLVE TO:
An Air Base that was once used frequently now has a new
purpose. The ground OPENS UP, allowing the starship to fly
right beneath as it closes up again once it's through.
Almost like it swallowed the ship whole.
MELINDA
Galactic Security Agent Melinda
Martel. Clearance Level 10.
She extends her KEY CARD out of the window. A Green LASER
LIGHT shines over it, then her face.
AYA:
Cleared for entry. Welcome back, Ms.
Martel.
BRIGHT WHITE
FLASH TO:
DALTON
...and with the increasing rate of
attacks and overall space crimes in
the galaxy, the Council funded and
created the Galactic Security Agency.
Our responsibility is to preserve
Galactic Stability by any means
necessary.
FAYE
Directly in front of you are the
dorms where you'll be living at for
the next year. If you can't handle
it, you're free to leave at any time,
but you will not be allowed to come
back. The Cafeteria is right next to
it. We just passed the training yard.
The workshop with all our weapons and
gadgets are on the far side. And the
classrooms are across from the dorms.
So lateness will be unacceptable.
DALTON
There other subdivisions within the
GSA. Including weapons training,
you'll be learning Medicine, computer
technology, and a little science.
FAYE
But at the same time, you'll learn
Kung-Fu, Sword-Fencing, Botany,
Boxing. We'll even show you how to
fly your own ship.
HARPER
YES!
HARPER (cont'd)
Sorry, it's just... I've always
wanted to fly one.
9.
FAYE
You do your part and act right,
you'll be in the same position Dalton
and I are in one day.
TEEN
What's that, standing around and
talking?
FAYE
He's funny.
DALTON
He's a cunt.
FAYE
Yes, Ms. Harper?
HARPER
Are we going to meet other agents?
FAYE
I'm glad you asked that. Something
new we're trying is each new recruit
will have the opportunity to shadow
one of our agents for a week.
(looking off-screen)
Speaking of. Hey, you!
MELINDA
Afternoon Dalton, Faye.
(off the recruits
look)
Who do we have here?
DALTON
Fresh meat.
FAYE
The new recruits, he means.
Everybody, this is--
HARPER
Melinda Martel!
10.
HARPER (cont'd)
My name is Rebecca Harper. I read all
about you in the Hostage situation on
Meridian. You're the whole reason I
wanted to join the Agency.
MELINDA
I'm very flattered. It's a pleasure
to meet you.
HARPER
(squealing)
Thanks!
DALTON
It's a good thing you're here.
Montgomery's been asking for you.
MELINDA
What happened?
MAN
Please, you have to believe me!
They're coming! They're coming!
MELINDA
Is everything alright?
RAMBLING MAN
I know what I saw, but they don't
believe me. I'm not lying. They're at
the edge of dark space. I've seen
them. Reapers. Monsters. Thousands of
them. They've slaughtered hundreds.
You have to tell them. Warn them!
11.
RAMBLING MAN
No! Please, no! Let me go! They'll
kill us all! Please!
MELINDA
What was that man rambling about?
Reapers?
MR. MONTGOMERY
Never mind him. A silly old wives
tale. The man is a deserter and known
drug user. One of his hallucinations
for all we know. Come, we must
discuss matters practical.
MR. MONTGOMERY
The terrorist has been identified as
Thane Korvax, a former Galactic
Security Operative, as well as the
last living member of the Luscian
Alien species.
MELINDA
What else do we know?
MR. MONTGOMERY
Just a few short hours ago, Thane and
two of his associates walked into the
Bekenstein Labs and Research
Facility, and did that.
MELINDA
Three people did all this?
MR. MONTGOMERY
It took them a little over five
minutes to do that. Thane has
extraordinary assistance.
MELINDA
They let that brute of jail?
MR. MONTGOMERY
He was never actually released.
MELINDA
They cared a great deal about
whatever they wanted their hands on.
MR. MONTGOMERY
They were there to steal Element
Zero. An extremely rare mineral.
We're still trying to figure out what
it is that it does.
13.
MELINDA
Right then, I'll be on my way.
MR. MONTGOMERY
Wait.
MELINDA
I prefer working alone. I move
faster, and don't need anybody
slowing me down. I can handle it.
MR. MONTGOMERY
I'm impressed with how you've
rebounded after the incident last
year. I admire your strength and
resolve. Your work speaks for itself.
You're the very best we have. But one
person can't do this. The risks are
too great. You're going to need help
with this.
MELINDA
I'm all ears.
ALIEN GIRL
Hey roomie, a bunch of us are gonna
grab a bite to eat. Wanna join?
HARPER
Yeah, I'll be right there.
14.
HARPER
Uh... hi?
HARPER
Can you please say something? You're
giving me anxiety.
15.
MELINDA
What made you think you could take it
upon yourself to stowaway on my ship?
HARPER
I'm sorry. I really wanted to work
with you, Melinda. And they said the
recruits would have the opportunity
to shadow the agents for a week.
MELINDA
Yes, after six months of training
first!
HARPER
I'm sorry. Look, I'm already here.
You might as well use me, right?
I'm a pretty good shot with a gun.
(off Melinda's look)
Hey, is that a Mateba Autorevolver?
HARPER (cont'd)
Can I see--
MELINDA
(grabbing Harper's
wrist)
I don't think so.
HARPER
Ow, ow. Ok, you made your point.
HARPER (cont'd)
Hey, um, you haven't got anything to
eat, do you? I skipped lunch. If
you've got some pizza, or Oreos lying
around, or something... Oh! Maybe a
peanut butter and jelly sandwich?
MELINDA
Do not jest with me, little girl. I
am not in the mood for it.
HARPER
What're you gonna do with me?
16.
MELINDA
I doubt Montgomery will take you back
after this stunt. I'll have to take
you home. Where is your family
located?
HARPER
I don't really have any family. As
far as everybody I've ever grown up
with is concerned, I'm dead.
A beat.
MELINDA
Come with me.
The ramp comes down and Melinda walks out with Harper at her
side. Harper looks almost awestruck by Outcome, when it's
not really anything you'd look twice at.
HARPER
Wow...
MELINDA
Have you never seen an alien before?
HARPER
Not this many in the same place.
HARPER (cont'd)
So, where are we going?
17.
MELINDA
We aren't going anywhere. I have to
locate someone. You are to stay here
and watch the ship.
HARPER
Watch the ship? Come on. I can go
with you. You know, like cover you or
something.
MELINDA
No.
HARPER
(sighs)
What am I supposed to do while you're
gone?
MELINDA
It's a thrilling read. I'll be back
shortly.
BARKEEP
What can I do you for, miss?
MELINDA
I'm looking for a man.
BARKEEP
There's a place over on 33rd. Might
want to get yourself checked out
before and after. I also wouldn't
touch anything in there without
gloves.
18.
MELINDA
No, you idiot. I'm looking for a man
by the name of Aidan Bloom. I hear he
frequents this bar.
BARKEEP
That bum? He's over there.
MELINDA
Aidan Bloom?
MELINDA (cont'd)
May I have a seat?
BLOOM
Do I owe you money?
MELINDA
No.
BLOOM
Then Aidan Bloom I am. Help yourself.
BLOOM (cont'd)
Want a drink?
MELINDA
No thank you. Mr. Bloom. I'll keep
this brief. My name is Melinda
Martel, on behalf of Galactic
Intelligence. We require your help
for a specific mission.
BLOOM
(laughing)
They sent you to come find me? Man,
they must be desperate.
19.
MELINDA
I've read your file. You're an
exceptional agent. Possibly one of
the best the Agency has ever had. I'm
not sure what you are now past a
drunkard.
BLOOM
Piss off, alright? I've actually been
thinking about making this a
permanent vacation.
MELINDA
I know about the Battle on Carth.
BLOOM
I see you're a pain in the ass as
well as nosy.
MELINDA
I have to read the files of everyone
involved in this assignment. Every
detail matters. I'm truly sorry about
the people you lost on that mission,
but you have to put that aside.
You're being given a second chance.
BLOOM
A second chance to do what?
MELINDA
To make up for the war you lost.
MELINDA (cont'd)
And I assure you, Bloom, the outcome
will be quite different the second
time around.
They turn...
20.
BLOOM
Ah shit.
BLOOM
It must've slipped my mind. My memory
ain't what it used to be.
MELINDA
Is there a problem, gentlemen?
MELINDA
How much money?
MELINDA
Gentlemen, I have traveled a long
way. Whatever your issue with Mr.
Bloom is will have to wait for some
other time.
BLOOM
Okay, wait a minute. Look, fellas, we
don't want any trouble, alright? So
here's the deal--
BLOOM
Had enough?
BLOOM
(to Melinda)
Quick! Get behind me!
BLOOM (cont'd)
(to Melinda)
Your turn.
MELINDA
With pleasure.
Melinda moves out from behind Bloom's back and the two of
them start fighting off the gang members together.
For two people who've just met, they work like a well oiled
machine. Melinda cuts through them skillfully and elegantly,
while Bloom is more physical, tossing one man through a
table and bashing another one's head on the barstand.
Once everyone is down, the lead alien who was running his
mouth gets up and stares down Melinda and Bloom.
BLOOM
That was one hell of a scrap.
BLOOM (cont'd)
You're good. In my prime, you and I
could've done some serious damage.
MELINDA
We still could.
BLOOM
Listen, tell those dipshits what sent
you that I'm not interested. I'm done
fighting other people's wars.
MELINDA
You're just going to walk away from
this?
BLOOM
Nothing gets past you, huh?
BLOOM (cont'd)
You can bill her for the damages.
Melinda reaches into her coat, pulls out a TASER. She SHOOTS
the TASER PRONGS in Bloom's back. He drops like a bad habit.
23.
HARPER
Where'd you get the hover car?
MELINDA
From some people who had no further
use for it.
HARPER
(meaning Bloom)
Who's he, and what's with the
straitjacket?
MELINDA
Harper, this is Aidan Bloom.
Mr. Bloom failed to cooperate, so I
had to persuade him to come with me.
BLOOM
Persuade my ass. Kid, your boss
kidnapped me. She didn't respond well
to "No."
MELINDA
Harper, can you let him out, please
so I don't have to listen to anymore
of his caterwauling?
HARPER
Aye, aye, Captain!
Harper frees him. Bloom tries to get the feeling back in his
arms, legs, and neck.
MELINDA
Come now, Bloom, I have to brief you
on what it is we're dealing with.
BLOOM
Can we stop for beer on the way?
24.
MELINDA
Bloom, we're dealing with a situation
of Galactic Security and I'd rather
have you speaking in complete
sentences to get it done.
BLOOM
...fair enough.
JUTE
That's the third human colony
attacked in five months, sir.
Something is happening out there.
JUTE (cont'd)
Could it be The Reapers?
MR. MONTGOMERY
Don't believe in those stories, Jute.
Curiosities on the far side of space
pose no immediate threat to us.
JUTE
I saw the man that was carried out of
here today. Are we absolutely certain
these Reapers are simply curiosities?
BREA
My apologies for disturbing you, Mr.
Montgomery, sir.
MR. MONTGOMERY
It's okay, Brea. What do you need?
25.
BREA
It's the Galactic Council, sir. They
want to speak with you.
MR. MONTGOMERY
T-they want to speak with me? Right
now? Are you sure?
BREA
Yes sir, they're waiting for you in
the communications room.
MR. MONTGOMERY
I thought we'd meet face to face.
SHEA
Not necessary. Traveling to you would
draw unwanted attention. This is
sufficient enough.
26.
MR. MONTGOMERY
May I ask a question?
SHEA
Go ahead.
MR. MONTGOMERY
Have you heard about what's been
happening out there? People are
starting to believe the Reapers are
returning. Do you have any inform--
ALEISTER
The Reapers are a myth. Nothing more.
Let's focus on the mission at hand.
MR. MONTGOMERY
Melinda is out with the team as we
speak. Is there any news on Thane?
ALEISTER
Thane has done an admirable job
covering his tracks, but he couldn't
hide his movements from us forever.
BARAK
We're forwarding you the intel we've
received. Feel free to update Melinda
when you get the opportunity.
MR. MONTGOMERY
How did you get the information?
SHEA
It's not in your best interest to
know that. Our reach in the Galaxy
extends a lot farther than you think.
MR. MONTGOMERY
How would you prefer they deal with
Thane when they find him?
RIVER
I want him dead.
RIVER (cont'd)
Thane has dangerous information in
his possession. If it gets out, it
could cast a dark shadow over the
Agency and send the Galaxy spiraling
out of control.
27.
MR. MONTGOMERY
I understand that, but--
RIVER
If Thane manages to succeed in any
way, the galaxy will bleed.
MR. MONTGOMERY
He should face justice.
RIVER
He dies. I'm not going to debate the
morality of the situation with you.
When Thane makes his next move, we'll
contact you. This exchange is over.
"HEIPHONG"
GUARD
You got business here? 'Cause if not,
I suggest you keep it moving.
The Guards get back up, but in the blink of an eye, Mika
hurls two daggers deep into their bodies, and they're down.
GABRIELLE
Please, come in.
GABRIELLE (cont'd)
What is this, are you about to put on
a performance for me?
THANE
Where's the ship?
GABRIELLE
Tell me something, Thane, why do you
always look so angry? You need to
relax. I could help you with that.
THANE
This is strictly business.
GABRIELLE
You're no fun when you're like this.
GABRIELLE (cont'd)
What's wrong with your beast?
MIKA
(in Japanese)
He's impatient. You wouldn't like us
very much when we get impatient. What
I wouldn't give to slice your pretty
little mouth and give you a red
smile.
GABRIELLE
What did she say?
THANE
It wouldn't be good for either of us
if I told you what she said.
29.
GABRIELLE
You surround yourself with some
interesting people, Thane.
THANE
I'll ask again -- where's the ship?
GABRIELLE
If I didn't know any better, I'd
think you were gearing up for a War.
THANE
Not a War. More like a reckoning.
GABRIELLE
Your ship is waiting for you in
Docking Bay 37.
GABRIELLE (cont'd)
The one thing that's been on my mind,
though...
GABRIELLE (cont'd)
... is why a former Galactic Security
operative is planning an attack
against the very agency he once
fought for?
THANE
I think a better question is if you
know what I'm doing, why haven't you
turned me in yet? Should I be
worried?
GABRIELLE
Money can buy a lot of things for the
right price. Silence being one of
them. The difference between someone
like you and someone like me, Thane,
is that I'm more of a big picture
person. I don't have a problem with
the GSA, or the Council.
30.
GABRIELLE (cont'd)
I mean sure, they're shitty in
dealing with certain situations, but
if you take them out, things are a
lot worse. It's an invitation to
anarchy.
THANE
Finished?
GABRIELLE
I think so, yeah.
THANE
Good.
GABRIELLE
I just hope you truly, and I mean
truly realize what you're doing.
THANE
I've known what I was going to do for
a long time.
GABRIELLE
Who's gonna pay for the mess you made
in my office?
THANE (O.S.)
The Government.
BLOOM
Something I can help you with?
MELINDA
There's somebody you need to meet.
31.
The Med Bay area of the ship is complete with several beds,
a small station, and a variety of medical equipment.
HARPER
Ow!
TIRAN
Must not touch. Sensitive materials.
HARPER
(meaning the crystals)
What are they?
TIRAN
Healing crystals. Have been used in
the past to cure ailments and
diseases. Provides mental balance and
stability. Results vary. Depends on
patient. Some positive. Some
negative. Nasty side effects.
HARPER
What about those plants? Do they come
from your planet?
TIRAN
Asking of a lot questions. Annoying?
No, maybe just inquisitive perhaps.
Herbs and plants extremely efficient
for healing. Roots, stems, and
especially berries. High results.
Mixed with vials and powders ensures
successful recuperation. Faye spice
most effective out of them all.
32.
MELINDA
Mr. Bloom, this Dr. Tiran Meylier.
TIRAN
Scanning complete. No sign of
diseases. 17% body fat. Good shape.
High cholesterol and sugar levels.
Alcohol in bloodstream. Worrisome.
Recommend alternatives. Coffee? No.
TIRAN (cont'd)
Tea, perhaps?
BLOOM
Is he for real?
MELINDA
He does make a fine cup of tea.
BLOOM
I'll pass.
BLOOM (cont'd)
Have you ever seen real combat?
BLOOM (cont'd)
If this mission is bad as boss lady
says it is, and shit goes sideways
out there -- and I got a pretty good
feeling that it will -- I want to
know if you can handle yourself
'cause I don't feel much like looking
after you.
TIRAN
Can sense distrust. Disconcerting.
Yet understandable. Most species make
similar misjudgments. Medics not
known for combat.
33.
TIRAN (cont'd)
My crossbow.
TIRAN (cont'd)
Several missions. High-risk. Covert.
Can handle myself. Underestimated.
Overlooked. Never see me coming.
MELINDA
Never judge a book by its cover,
Bloom.
MELINDA (cont'd)
That would be Montgomery.
TIRAN
Element Zero!
MELINDA
You're familiar with this mineral,
Doctor?
TIRAN
Certainly. Very sensitive and
powerful mineral. Can power ship's
drive core. Strengthen shields.
Armament. Weapons. Increase and boost
FTL travel.
BLOOM
So, it's like giving your ship a dose
of steroids.
34.
TIRAN
In so little words, yes.
MR. MONTGOMERY
Thane's two associates in our custody
have sang the right tune. He's
keeping the element zero safe in a
facility on Kerdro. He must be
stopped... by any means necessary.
FLASHBACK TO:
Thane fiddles and plays around with the ship controls until
it starts humming with power and the lights come on.
BACK TO:
VAUGHAN
Thane?
36.
THANE
Come in.
MIKA
We dock at Kerdro soon.
VAUGHAN
Thane?
THANE
You two are just in time. I was about
to pour myself a drink.
MIKA
Have you slept?
THANE
Sleep is the last thing on my mind.
THANE (cont'd)
I've seen War and Death for what it
really is. I've seen my people dead.
Never have I wanted something so much
in my life. I've seen the faces of
those who've wronged me. But if I
kill them, then what? Others will
come for me to avenge them. And if I
die, others will avenge me. On and on
and on. An ongoing cycle of violence.
Where will it end? I thought, perhaps
we should end this crusade now.
THANE (cont'd)
But that was then. And this is now.
The Galactic Security Agency and The
Council that supports them are liars
and War Criminals.
THANE (cont'd)
And it's high time they answer for
their atrocities.
BLOOM
You're bringing revolvers?
MELINDA
Is that a problem?
BLOOM
What's wrong with a blaster?
MELINDA
I much prefer being old-fashioned.
BLOOM
What exactly are you gonna do with
those? Walk ten paces, then shoot?
HARPER
So, uh, where's my weapon?
MELINDA
You don't get one. We've been over
this. You are not coming on this
mission.
HARPER
Please?!
MELINDA
How many more times will you ask me?
38.
HARPER
Until you change your answer.
BLOOM
What're we gonna do with her? I mean,
it's not like we have time to babysit
a child.
HARPER
I'm not a child!
BLOOM
Keep quiet little baby and let the
grown ups talk this one out, okay?
MELINDA
We can't take her back to
headquarters. Not now. Thane is our
primary objective.
TIRAN
Simple solution. Lock her up. Keep
her on ship. Out of sight. Out of
trouble. Finish mission. Let
Montgomery handle it later.
HARPER
This is so unfair. I can help. I can
do things, you know.
MELINDA
What's healthy for you is that you
remain here. At least I know you're
safe and won't get into any trouble.
We'll be back shortly.
Beat.
HARPER
I'll show you.
39.
"KERDRO"
THANE
Is the work done?
SCIENTIST
Yes, sir. We've experimented with the
element zero. Been able to tweak it
and re-engineer it to your liking.
THANE
Good. I've dropped the ship off at
Corinth. When the final tests are
done, we'll bring it there.
THANE (cont'd)
Everybody, prepare yourselves. We're
about to have some uninvited guests.
40.
TIRAN
What is that?
BLOOM
Fuel. It powers my pistol's deflector
shield.
TIRAN
How much of it do you have left?
BLOOM
Not a lot, but just enough.
MELINDA
We've landed. Let's move.
BLOOM
Hold on, shouldn't we devise some
sort of strategy on how to approach
this. I had a few ideas...
MELINDA
Mr. Bloom, if I may cut you off for a
moment. This is how the mission will
go. You two will proceed with me. You
will stay behind me. I will give the
orders and you will act only when and
if I deem it appropriate to do so.
BLOOM
Lady, we didn't come all the way out
here to be your glorified bodyguards.
MELINDA
We haven't the time for a dialogue.
BLOOM
Like hell we don't.
MELINDA
I'm the only one who's been in active
field combat in the last few months.
41.
MELINDA (cont'd)
If we follow the simple rules I've
laid out, we can complete this
mission. Do we have a deal?
BLOOM
Yeah, we got a deal.
MELINDA
Good.
MELINDA
There's a great deal of them. We need
to be smart about this.
Melinda looks and sees that both Bloom and Tiran are gone,
and charging the facility, guns blazing.
Several BLASTER BOLTS with perfect aim, taking them out, and
sending them flying!
BLOOM
Forget this.
Bloom CRACKS one guy in the face, and THRUST KICKS another
one across the floor.
BLOOM (cont'd)
Whoa, wait...!
Melinda SHOOTS...
MELINDA
Do not do that again.
BLOOM
Doesn't feel so good when you're not
in control, does it?
TIRAN
Enough. Wasting a lot of time. Need
to go. Fight later when mission is
done.
Melinda gives Bloom a look and walks past him. They head
inside the facility.
A beat.
HARPER. Pops out. Covering behind a rock the whole time. She
runs around to the other side of the facility where she
finds a ladder. She climbs it, heading to the roof.
HARPER
A-ha! It's this way.
LASER BLASTS ping and bounce off the wall. SPARKS fly.
Bloom DISARMS a man, drops him to the floor, and SHOOTS him.
He rolls across the floor, dodging laser fire, and shoots
another enemy dead.
BLOOM
A thank you would be nice.
TIRAN
What now?
MELINDA
Wherever the element is, if there's
this many more of these men, it must
be heavily guarded.
BLOOM
If we split up--
MELINDA
Bloom, no. It's a ridiculous idea
before it even leaves your head.
TIRAN
Martel. Bloom may be correct. Group
disconnect, while shrewd, could
perhaps work. Cover more ground.
Better chance of success.
MELINDA
There's a better chance of success if
we stay together.
BLOOM
We're wasting time. Just trust me on
this one.
BLOOM (cont'd)
We'll stay on radio contact.
MELINDA
Bloody hell.
SOLDIER
We're leaving. Let's move out.
HARPER
Hello beautiful.
Harper turns her head. Someone's coming. She can sense it.
A beat.
Bloom and Tiran come up from behind and KNOCK THEM OUT!
THANE
You have something that doesn't
belong to you.
HARPER
It doesn't belong to you either.
THANE
That's cute. Give it to me.
HARPER
No.
THANE
No?
THANE (cont'd)
The next one won't miss.
MELINDA
Harper!
Thane turns and not only snatches the Element Zero, but
holds Harper at gunpoint. Melinda points her gun.
THANE
I was wondering when the Agency would
finally sick their dogs on me.
MELINDA
Thane Korvax, my name is Melinda
Martel on behalf of Galactic
Intelligence. You are under arrest.
Drop the girl, drop the element zero,
and come with me.
47.
THANE
A little late to the party, Ms.
Martel. I'm going to leave with this
element. Over your dead body...
THANE (cont'd)
... or hers. Or both. It makes no
difference to me, really.
HARPER
(teary-eyed)
Melinda... I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.
MELINDA
It's going to be okay, Harper.
THANE
You shouldn't make promises you can't
keep.
MELINDA
You'd murder a child?
THANE
If I have to. What's it going to be,
Melinda Martel? The girl, the
element, or me? You can't have them
all. It's time to make a decision.
A beat.
THANE (cont'd)
Time's up.
Thane THROWS Harper into Melinda and the two fall to the
ground. Thane SPRINTS out of the room with the Element Zero.
MELINDA
Harper, are you okay?
MELINDA (cont'd)
Harper, look at me!
48.
MELINDA (cont'd)
I need you to get back to the ship.
Can you do that for me?
MELINDA (cont'd)
Okay, now go.
THANE (O.S.)
(over comms)
Mika, Vaughan. Rendezvous at the
ship. Now!
VAUGHAN
It's been fun.
Thane manages to get the upper hand and BOOTS Melinda across
the floor, then takes off for the nearest door.
Melinda moves after him, but IT'S LOCKED. Through the door
window...
Melinda backs up from the door and DRAWS her Revolver. Thane
grins again as he flees. She aims at the hinges and...
BLOOM
How's she doing?
TIRAN
Nothing broken. No internal bleeding.
Very Fortunate. Could've been worse.
MELINDA
I appreciate your concern, Doctor,
but I'm fine.
MELINDA (cont'd)
What did Montgomery say when you
spoke with him?
BLOOM
He didn't take the news very well,
but he did send me the address of a
contact of his on Corinth that should
be able to help us out. It's not too
far from here.
50.
TIRAN
Melinda too hurt to go. Needs to rest
and recuperate.
MELINDA
I said I'm fine.
BLOOM
He's right. Regain your strength.
I'll check it out with the Doctor.
MELINDA
Without me? You'll get yourselves
killed.
BLOOM
The hell's your problem, huh?
MELINDA
My "problem" is you don't how to
listen. If the two of you had simply
followed orders back there, and done
what you were told--
BLOOM
You talked to us like we were beneath
you and gave us worthless directions
so that we'd be out of your way.
MELINDA
Thane should be in custody. This
mission should be over, but instead,
you disobeyed orders at every turn.
All I saw was a great deal of
grandstanding. If Thane succeeds,
people are going to die. I imagine
this is something you're all too
familiar with. Exactly how many
people died under you in that war you
failed to win?
BLOOM
Yeah, I'm a failure. In fact, I was
such a failure, I got dozens of
people killed. Watched a lot of good
people die, friends. Lost the big
war. Let a lot of people down.
BLOOM (cont'd)
You wanna talk failure? What about
how you failed to save your husband,
and still can't get over it?
BLOOM (cont'd)
I did my homework on you too. Married
for two years, right? Bahari was his
name, wasn't it?
MELINDA
(tense)
Bloom... you are treading on mighty
thin ice.
BLOOM
Not only your husband, but your field
partner too, right? Then, he was
killed in that hostage mission on
Meridian you've been praised for.
MELINDA
(volcanic)
Back away from me.
BLOOM
You're a great agent, yeah. Too bad
he had to die first, isn't it?
TIRAN (O.S.)
Melinda, stop!
52.
ON THE PHOTO: The two of them smiling and happy. Much more
peaceful times.
Melinda smiles and a tear runs down her cheek. Her gaze
moves from the photo over to the security monitors.
MELINDA (O.S.)
Hey.
Harper sees Melinda emerge and sit in the pilot chair with
two steaming cups of Hot Chocolate.
HARPER
Don't worry, I didn't touch anything.
MELINDA
That device you used to escape was
impressive. How did you obtain it?
HARPER
I stole it.
MELINDA
(after a beat)
I made Hot Chocolate. I thought we
could share some.
53.
HARPER
What am I, five?
Melinda pulls the cup away, but Harper quickly takes it. She
puts her nose to the cup and takes a big whiff.
HARPER (cont'd)
Smells fantastic.
HARPER (cont'd)
Tastes even better. Hmm, it even has
marshmallows in it.
MELINDA
Hot Chocolate was my Mother's way of
making me feel better whenever I was
upset. I loved it. Bahari and I...
before he... we used to drink it
together some nights too.
(after a beat)
Harper--
HARPER
You took the shot.
A beat.
MELINDA
I'm sorry, Harper, but the mission
comes first. My duty as an agent
comes before personal feelings. Had I
not shown up when I did, Thane
would've killed you himself.
HARPER
I know it was stupid of me to
stowaway on the ship, and even
stupider to go after the element zero
on my own. I just... I wanted to be
the hero. Like you were.
MELINDA
(sighs)
I remember when I was around your
age...
54.
HARPER
You can remember that far back?
MELINDA
Very funny.
Harper laughs.
MELINDA (cont'd)
I once stole and destroyed a Star
Patrol ship.
HARPER
What? No way!
MELINDA
Yes. I was a very different woman
then. My friends and I were having a
good bit of fun. I turned it on,
and... it all happened so fast. Next
thing I know, we ended up crashing it
into this field.
HARPER
What happened?
MELINDA
Rather than put us in prison, Star
Patrol enrolled myself, Dalton, and
Faye into the academy. We worked our
way up to the Agency from there.
MELINDA (cont'd)
It was a mistake. Much like what you
did was a mistake. A serious mistake.
We're not perfect. We just try to do
the best that we can.
MELINDA (cont'd)
If you want to be an agent and be an
asset on this mission, you'll need to
learn properly. Are you ready?
HARPER
You... you mean right now?
55.
MELINDA
Since we're already in the cockpit, I
can teach you the basic controls.
Let's call it... on-the-job training.
HARPER
I've been waiting for this my whole
life.
MELINDA
We're going to Corinth, so I'll guide
you every step of the way.
MELINDA (cont'd)
Alright, that's enough of that. We
wouldn't want to crash this ship. I
happen to like it.
"CORINTH"
Mika ENTERS.
56.
THANE
What is it?
MIKA
(in Japanese)
Melinda's been spotted in the city.
THANE
Is that right?
He grins.
THANE (cont'd)
She's persistent. Bring her in.
Melinda enters the club. All business, as she makes her way
across the bar.
ZAREK
Yes?
MELINDA
Mr. Zarek?
ZAREK
Correct.
MELINDA
I was recommended to you by Mr.
Montgomery.
57.
ZAREK
Ah.
ZAREK (cont'd)
Please, have a seat.
ZAREK (cont'd)
Would you like a drink?
MELINDA
No thank you.
MELINDA (cont'd)
Mr. Zarek, my name is Melinda Martel.
I was hoping that you could perhaps
provide some information for me on
the whereabouts of a Thane Korvax.
It's a matter of grave importance
that I find him. He's planning an
attack against the GSA and Council.
ZAREK
(off her look)
Aren't you supposed to have a team
with you?
MELINDA
No. It's just me.
ZAREK
Montgomery tells me you don't like
having a partner.
MELINDA
I don't. And if you've gone through
what I've gone through in my life,
you would see my point of view.
ZAREK
You've got a lot of learning to do,
Ms. Martel.
MELINDA
You don't know anything about me.
58.
ZAREK
I used to be like you. You want to be
a loner, follow your own path, and
make your own rules. You don't want
to be dependent on others, but
really, you just don't want another
person's death on your conscious. Am
I in the ballpark?
Melinda stays quiet. He's right, but she won't tell him
that.
ZAREK (cont'd)
There's some fights you can't win
single-handily. You keep this up,
sooner or later, you'll get yourself
killed. I've seen it happen.
ZAREK (cont'd)
(chuckles)
But what do I know?
MELINDA
Can you tell me about Thane, or can't
you?
ZAREK
(after a beat)
I have little birds all around
Corinth. They tell me things.
MELINDA
What kinds of things?
ZAREK
They tell me Thane has a base here
that they're operating out of.
Planning this attack you're so
concerned with.
MELINDA
Where is it -- this base?
ZAREK
Past this city is a Mountain range.
You look close enough, there's a base
in the mountains. That's where he is.
MELINDA
How do you know it's there? Have you
seen it yourself?
59.
ZAREK
My little birds have seen it. They
tell me this.
MELINDA
All this information, and you haven't
done anything about it?
ZAREK
I am merely a businessman. I'm not in
the habit of starting a War.
MELINDA
One last thing. What can you tell me
about The Reapers?
ZAREK
The only thing I can tell you is that
they've given me sleepless nights.
You better pray you never have to see
one of them with your own eyes.
A beat.
MELINDA
Thank you for your time, Mr. Zarek.
ZAREK
Just think about what I said.
MELINDA
I think that when I apprehend Thane,
I'm coming after you for not turning
in a wanted terrorist.
TROOPER
(in radio)
Now.
HARPER (O.S.)
A base in the mountains? Seriously?
MELINDA
(into her comms)
That's what he said. He was going on
about how his "little birds" told him
about it.
HARPER (O.S.)
What, like spies?
MELINDA
I think so. Where are Bloom and
Tiran?
HARPER (O.S.)
Around the ship somewhere. I'm still
in the cockpit.
MELINDA
I'm on my way back to the ship now.
Get them together and...
HARPER
Melinda? Melinda?!
Harper leaps out of her seat, and runs out of the cockpit.
HARPER (cont'd)
Bloom! Tiran!
61.
BOOM! Another explosion, but she doesn't get away far enough
and gets BLASTED backwards across the ground.
HARPER
Shit.
MR. MONTGOMERY
What are you doing there?!
HARPER
Never mind that right now, sir!
Melinda's been kidnapped!
BLOOM
Thane's people jumped her in the
streets, and by the time we got
there, she was already gone.
62.
MR. MONTGOMERY
Where did they take her?
HARPER
I talked with her before the attack.
She said something to me about Thane
having a base in the mountains.
TIRAN
If true, that's our play.
MR. MONTGOMERY
I've contacted Gateway, but the
Council have chosen to prepare
themselves and stay put, rather than
evacuating the whole station.
BLOOM
They're putting thousands of people
in danger.
MR. MONTGOMERY
I'll do what I can on my end. Find
Melinda. Contact me the second you
do. And Harper?
HARPER
Yes sir?
MR. MONTGOMERY
We'll talk more about this later.
HARPER
Why didn't you guys go with Melinda?
BLOOM
She made it quite clear she didn't
want our help.
HARPER
What happened?
BLOOM
We both got out of line with each
other. Some things were said.
TIRAN
No real right, or wrong side. Both
equally at fault. Mission failed.
63.
TIRAN (cont'd)
Tensions were high. Emotions clouded
judgment. Affected actions.
(to Bloom)
Though, to be fair. Would have
punched you too.
HARPER
No way, she knocked you out?!
BLOOM
She didn't knock me out. She sucker
punched me. That's not the point.
Point is, if she hadn't shot her
mouth off, she wouldn't be in this
situation. She got into this herself,
she can get out of it herself.
HARPER
She's been through a lot, you know.
BLOOM
Tell her to join the goddamn club.
She's not the only person on this
ship with baggage.
BLOOM (cont'd)
I'm sure you have something to say,
so let's hear it.
TIRAN
You need to get out of your own way.
BLOOM
Me? What about Melinda? I wouldn't
have said a thing if she didn't lay
into me first.
TIRAN
Not about who is right, or wrong.
Both of you must focus on what's
important. The Mission. Stopping
Thane. Not about you, or Melinda.
Mission is the only thing that
matters. Bigger than all of us. Lives
hanging in the balance.
TIRAN (cont'd)
Won't win war unless you two make
amends. Do you want to lose another
one?
BLOOM
Since when do you know how to fly a
ship?
BLOOM (cont'd)
C'mon kid, gimme a break here.
HARPER
If you won't help Melinda, I'll do it
myself.
BLOOM
This isn't a game, kid. This is real.
You screw around, you die. Is this
really worth getting killed over?
HARPER
No. But saving Melinda is.
HARPER (cont'd)
I know it's hard, but we can't do
this if you two are at each others
throats. You two aren't on the same
page. You're not even reading from
the same book. If you're not gonna
help, then just leave me alone.
BLOOM
Move over, kid. You'll get us all
killed.
HARPER
You got a plan?
BLOOM
Nah, we're just gonna wing it.
Thane enters with two files under his arm and takes a seat.
THANE
Melinda Martel. The Agency's finest.
Nice to see you again so soon. Thank
you for dropping in.
MELINDA
(shows handcuffs)
I very much didn't have a choice in
the matter, did I?
THANE
(off Melinda's look)
You look upset.
MELINDA
It's been a long day.
THANE
Likewise.
(beat)
Allow me to properly introduce myself
to you. My name is Thane Korvax.
MELINDA
I know who you are, Thane. I know
what you are. I know what you're
doing. And I will stop you.
THANE
Forgive me if I'm not exactly
trembling in fear, what with you
handcuffed and separated from your
team. To be honest, I was looking
forward to seeing you again.
MELINDA
Why is that?
THANE
So that I could tell you the truth.
66.
MELINDA
What truth?
THANE
These people you work for have
manipulated everybody into believing
that we're all safe as long as
they're around.
MELINDA
What is this?
THANE
What's left of the Leagarians and my
people, the Luscians.
MELINDA
How did you obtain these photos?
THANE
The people I've enlisted -- former
Agency operatives as well -- pledged
themselves to my cause once they saw
these photos and learned the truth.
MELINDA
What is this truth you keep prattling
on about?
THANE
The Leagarians were a pack of
barbarians that routinely ignored
galactic policies and acted as they
pleased. They were too dangerous and
breeding like crazy. My homeworld was
just the fifth one they invaded and
sought to take over. When they drove
us off the planet, I tried to used my
assets when I was still with the
Agency to help. I went to The
Council. They said they would assist
us in going to war with them to
reclaim the world.
(beat)
Little did I know, they were leading
my people into a slaughter. They
never thought we'd win.
67.
THANE (cont'd)
So, we were used us bait to lure
every Leagarian to that world, and
they wiped everybody out. Everybody
except me.
THANE (cont'd)
The GSA killed my people. The Council
gave the order.
MELINDA
They killed both races on purpose?
THANE
They saw an opportunity to eliminate
a threat and took it. Their solution
was Mass Genocide. My people were
collateral damage. There weren't that
many of us left, so what's one less
race in the galaxy?
(beat)
And the worst of it? Nobody know what
really happened. As far as the galaxy
is concerned, we blew ourselves up.
This is what happens when people have
too much power and abuse it. That's
what you stand for. I stand for
everything that is real.
MELINDA
So, this is revenge?
THANE
This is about so much more than
revenge. This is justice for my
people, whose deaths were never
acknowledged and the murderers who
were never held accountable for it. I
have everything I need to expose your
agency, the Council, and their
actions, but it's not enough. They
need to feel the full weight of what
they've done. Tenfold. They've made
their bed, and I'm going to bury them
in it.
MELINDA
I understand what you're feeling--
68.
THANE
You could never understand!
THANE (cont'd)
Watch your whole race extinguished by
people you thought you could trust.
Be the last of your own species, and
maybe then you'll understand.
MELINDA
This isn't the way, Thane. If you go
through with this. Hundreds may die.
THANE
Hundreds will die for the thousands
I've lost. Their debts must be paid.
MELINDA
You do this, and then what? Will it
make you feel better? It won't bring
your people back. You'll still be the
last of your kind.
THANE
I can rest knowing my people have
been avenged and their killers
brought to justice.
MELINDA
You have to know that somehow you
will be stopped.
THANE
There isn't a force of nature, or an
act of God that can stop me.
CLOSING IN ON...
BLOOM
I don't like this.
TIRAN
What is it?
BLOOM
I feel like they should've known we
were coming. I was expecting an
ambush.
HARPER
Look!
TIRAN
What--?
HARPER
It's a ship! Look at the size of it!
BLOOM
That's gotta be Thane's ship.
HARPER
Come on, maybe Melinda's still
inside.
Bloom runs the point, while Tiran and Harper cover him. It's
quiet. Too quiet. Strangely enough, there are no Soldiers
anywhere. Not a single one.
70.
TIRAN
Nobody here. Very unsettling.
BLOOM
If there's nobody here, we don't have
to worry about being loud.
(shouting)
MELINDA!
MELINDA
I'M IN HERE!
The group spins around and runs back in the direction of the
clanging. They run until they locate the right door, and try
pushing it open.
HARPER
It won't budge!
BLOOM
Stand back.
BLOOM
Well, look at this! Appears I got
here just in time. What does that
make me?
MELINDA
Late.
Bloom kneels down, whips out a lock pick and goes to work on
Melinda's handcuffs.
MELINDA (cont'd)
You know how to pick locks?
71.
BLOOM
I'm full of surprises.
Bloom frees Melinda and Harper gives her a BIG Hug, burying
her head in Melinda's chest. Melinda embraces her back.
MELINDA
Nice to see you too, Harper. Thank
you all for coming. Did you see Thane
on your way in?
TIRAN
He's gone. Flew away in this huge
ship. Surprisingly, base empty. Bad
feeling. Need to leave now.
MELINDA
You're right, let's go.
THANE
Before we set a course for Gateway, I
want to test our weapon.
WORKER
Right away, sir.
WORKER #2
What should we target?
THANE
The base, of course.
WORKER
Weapon is armed and ready, sir.
72.
THANE
Fire.
The Frigate blast has caused the base to start caving in.
DAYLIGHT as the four of them exit the base onto the platform
they landed on.
THANE
That was an impressive test run. I
think it's time for a real show. Set
a course for Gateway.
MELINDA
Is everybody okay?
73.
BLOOM
Lucky to be alive for sure.
MELINDA
Thankfully you all showed up when you
did.
TIRAN
Thane's ship is powerful. Too
powerful. Will be at Gateway in no
time at all. Need to move now to
catch him.
MELINDA
Wait.
MELINDA (cont'd)
I want to apologize for what I said
earlier. I was used to working alone,
and had every intention of keeping it
that way. I thought I didn't need
help. I quickly saw how wrong I was.
BLOOM
This isn't a trick, right?
MELINDA
No, I assure you, it's not. I can't
do this alone. The only way to stop
Thane is by working together. I know
that now.
(beat)
I also apologize for what I said to
you, Bloom. My actions and words were
very much uncalled for. I didn't mean
to insult you, or what you've done.
BLOOM
I'm sorry too. What I said to you
before was way out of line.
MELINDA BLOOM
But you were right. But you were right.
MELINDA
We've both had our fair share of
grief, but we can't let it define us.
74.
MELINDA (cont'd)
And we can't take it out on each
other either.
BLOOM
You're right. Especially since we've
got larger concerns to deal with.
TIRAN
Now, we can finish mission. Thane
stands no chance.
HARPER
Oh, you guys! I'm so happy that we're
finally a team!
BLOOM
Alright, kid, get off me.
BLOOM (cont'd)
We should probably let Montgomery
know just what is we're dealing with.
MELINDA
That's a good idea. I have some
questions for him myself.
Thane, Mika, and Vaughn walk through a corridor and into the
drive core area where several WORKERS are at their stations.
The Element Zero powering the Drive Core has been placed in
the center of a large glass cylinder casing with three light
rings around it.
THANE
Hello, Doctor. The weapon works
better than I thought it would. I
thank you for your service.
75.
SCIENTIST
We've done what you asked. My team
installed the element. Let us go.
THANE
What's your rush? Why don't you stay
for a while? We're not finished
having fun yet.
SCIENTIST
Has anybody ever told you how much of
a madman you are?
THANE
Would you care to be the first?
THANE (cont'd)
(to Mika and Vaughn)
Take him to the cells.
Mika and Vaughan drag The Scientist away against his will.
SCIENTIST
The GSA will come for you!
THANE
Yeah, I'll be ready for them.
MR. MONTGOMERY
It's nice to see that you're alright,
Melinda.
MELINDA
Thank you. Mr. Montgomery, I have a
question that I'm only going to ask
once and I want an honest answer.
MR. MONTGOMERY
What is it?
MELINDA
Were you involved in a plot to murder
two Alien races with a biological
weapon and covering it up?
76.
MR. MONTGOMERY
I don't see what that has to do
with--
MELINDA
It's not a difficult question -- yes,
or no?
MR. MONTGOMERY
(after a beat)
Yes. I was. How do you--
MELINDA
Thane shared the details with me.
Told me how you and the Council used
his people to exterminate a barbaric
alien race along with his own.
Miraculously, he survived, and now
he's coming after you all.
A beat.
MR. MONTGOMERY
You weren't there. I don't expect you
to understand. A decision had to be
made.
TIRAN
Mass genocide not the answer. Highly
reckless. Incredibly stupid. My
people frown upon such things.
MR. MONTGOMERY
The Council masterminded the whole
thing. I was just following orders.
MELINDA
Thane lost his entire bloodline
because of men just following orders.
HARPER
Did you even try to stop them?
MR. MONTGOMERY
I tried speaking up, but I had no
authority in the situation.
MELINDA
And yet there you are. If you really
believed it was wrong, you would've
left.
77.
MR. MONTGOMERY
Thane is a maniac. We're finding out
firsthand that anger is a dangerous
thing put in the hands of a man like
that.
BLOOM
(catching on)
It's all starting to make sense now.
You people don't want us to stop
Thane because of his attack. You're
afraid he'll expose everything. He's
nothing but a loose end. The Council
had Montgomery hire us to do their
dirty work.
A beat.
HARPER
Is that true?
MR. MONTGOMERY
All that matters now is Thane is
planning to attack Gateway. If we
don't beat him there and stop him,
it'll be nothing but a debris field.
MELINDA
(sighs)
Unfortunately, he's right.
EVERYONE
HE IS?!?!
MELINDA
Yes. We need to stop Thane.
(to Montgomery)
We'll continue this conversation
later.
MELINDA (cont'd)
We have to bring Thane down. There's
no way around it. He's angry. He's
justified, but we can't let him
murder hundreds of innocents. Let's
suit up.
78.
MELINDA
I didn't think I'd be using this room
again so soon, but now is as good a
time as any.
HARPER
(amazed)
Whoa...
MELINDA
We're going to War. Best pick your
poison now.
MONTAGE
MELINDA (cont'd)
This is not a toy.
HARPER
How harmful can a lighter be?
MELINDA
This is not a lighter. It's a hand
grenade. It could blow the entire
ship to Heaven's gate right along
with the rest of us.
HARPER
Oops. Sorry.
HARPER (cont'd)
Thanks.
Melinda, Bloom, Tiran, and Harper walk towards and into the
bridge, ready for battle.
MELINDA
Mr. Montgomery.
MR. MONTGOMERY
How long until you reach Gateway?
MELINDA
We'll be there soon.
TIRAN
Won't arrive in time to stop initial
attack, however.
MR. MONTGOMERY
Not to worry. After Melinda was
kidnapped, I assembled a fleet and
we're headed there as we speak.
FAYE
Melinda! Is that really you? My, are
you a sight for sore eyes!
MELINDA
Faye! Dalton! It's good to see you.
DALTON
Good to see you're still alive.
FAYE
I feared the worst myself.
DALTON
Wait a minute, what the hell is that
little kid doing there?!
80.
HARPER
(nervous)
Uh... hi, Mr. Dalton, sir.
DALTON
I knew somebody was missing from the
head count. You are gonna be in so
much SHIT when you get back here!
MR. MONTGOMERY
Focusing on the matter at hand, what
exactly are we dealing with?
BLOOM
If you've seen the things we've seen,
it'll take a miracle to stop what
Thane is bringing.
MR. MONTGOMERY
The Council assembled a small team on
the ground to help with crowd
control, ground to air defense, and
possible evacuation until we get
there. I hope the four of you have a
plan.
HARPER
I actually may have an idea.
PEOPLE of ALL races and exotic species move past each other
and chat along the curvature as the habitat stretches out
behind them. The playful sounds of CHILDREN, running around
and enjoying themselves.
WORKER
Waiting on your word, sir.
THANE
Bombs away.
WORKER
Sir, I'm picking up something on our
large range sensors. Coming in fast.
MR. MONTGOMERY
Everyone, this is it. Be ready on my
signal.
THANE
Wipe them out.
MR. MONTGOMERY
Fire!
MR. MONTGOMERY
All ships engage the target!
The GSA Fleet moves in, BLASTING and FIRING as they advance
on their colossal opposition.
Two ships fly around in the chaos of the laser fire, and
make a play for the lower outer hull of the Frigate.
FAYE'S POV
FAYE
Dalton, you with me?
DALTON
I'm right here, baby. Fire everything
we got!
Beads of sweat run down Faye's face. She grits her teeth.
FAYE
Come on!
They keep firing and repeatedly pounding that same spot with
high-powered laser fire, generating tremendous amounts of
heat until...
85.
DALTON
YES!
FAYE
(into comms)
Melinda, now!
THANE
Status report?
WORKER
Shields at 67%. Weapon will take
another minute or so to recharge.
WORKER #2
Sir, there's a breach in level 4.
THANE
(into comms)
Mika. Vaughan. We have intruders.
MELINDA
(into her comms)
Faye, how is it out there?
86.
FAYE (O.S.)
We're right as rain, Melinda. Dalton
and I are gonna rejoin the fleet.
MELINDA
Be careful out there.
FAYE (O.S.)
Be careful in there.
MELINDA
Copy.
Melinda and Bloom trade looks and grin. Both of them now n
the same page.
He THRUST KICKS one into the wall, SHOOTING him dead. One
Trooper turns the corner. Bloom ELBOWS him in the face,
takes him down, and SHOOTS him too.
MELINDA (cont'd)
We have to find Thane. My guess,
he'll be on the bridge.
Melinda stands up, ready for a fight. Bloom cuts her off.
87.
BLOOM
Go after Thane. Leave her to me.
MELINDA
Bloom, I can't let you...
BLOOM
Just go, okay? I got this.
BLOOM (cont'd)
You owe me a rematch.
TIRAN
You sure it is on this level?
HARPER
The ship's core is powered by the
Element Zero. It'll be here. Just get
me there, and I can disable it.
TIRAN
GO!
HARPER
Whoa...
HARPER (cont'd)
Oh, shut up.
HARPER (cont'd)
Holy Shit...
HARPER (cont'd)
(exhales)
Okay, Harper. You got this.
THANE
Arm the weapon. Destroy everything.
Mika SLINGS dagger after dagger towards Bloom, who has his
Deflector Shield up, blocking them all. He pushes towards
her with a plan in mind.
BLOOM
Ah, crap.
Mika drives him back with a kick. She's weak, but still
fighting. She goes to draw one last dagger, but Bloom DRAWS
another GUN and SHOOTS Mika dead.
Vaughan makes his move. SWING AND A MISS. Tiran comes back
with some well placed shots, and a knee to the face,
staggering the big man, almost taking him off his feet.
The big man swings his arm. Tiran grabs it, trying to
overpower the big man and push him back. Vaughan punches
Tiran's face with his fist, knocking him to the ground.
VAUGHAN
Get up! Walk it off!
Tiran swipes the blood from his lips and sees his crossbow
on the ground. He gets to his feet and RUNS AT VAUGHAN.
TIRAN
Walk that off.
FAYE (O.S.)
Harper, the weapon is gettin' ready
to fire again. Whatever you're doing
in there, do it now!
HARPER
(into her comms)
I'm trying to manually deactivate the
core, but nothing is working.
A light bulb goes off in her head. Harper backs up, draws
her gun, and SHOOTS THE GLASS surrounding the drive core.
The whole Frigate SHUTS DOWN. The Cannon's core DIMS and the
the light FADES AWAY, powering it down.
THANE
What happened? Why isn't the weapon
firing?
WORKER
The Cannon is not responding, sir.
Nothing is responding. I think the
whole core has been disabled.
WORKER #2
Orders, sir?
THANE
Listen to me very carefully.
HARPER (O.S.)
(over comms)
Melinda, the drive core has been
disabled. All their weapons and
barriers are offline.
MELINDA
(into comms)
Great job, Harper. Rendezvous with
Tiran. I'm going after Thane.
NO THANE.
MELINDA
Where is he?!
92.
BLOOM
Where's the fire?
MELINDA
Thane escaped on a ship heading for
Gateway.
BLOOM
Why wouldn't he just escape?
MELINDA
I don't know, but we have the bastard
right where we want him.
The ship DASHES out of the hangar, hurtling past ships and
parts of ships flinging about.
BLOOM
Where's Thane? His ship is here.
MELINDA
My God. We need to move. Come on!
MELINDA
Thane!
MELINDA (cont'd)
It's over, Thane. Every advantage you
had is gone. Don't make this any
worse than it has to be.
He turns--
MELINDA (cont'd)
Bloom!
THANE
You know how powerful the explosives
on this vest are? All I have to do is
press this button and... let's just
say, there'd be little left of us
both to clean up.
THANE (cont'd)
You shoot me, the vest will explode
and take the both of us and half this
place with it. If I were you, I'd
choose my next move very carefully.
THANE (cont'd)
You can't talk your way out of this!
Melinda makes a bold move and puts her gun on the ground.
She slowly walks towards Thane with her hands up.
THANE (cont'd)
W-What are you doing?
MELINDA
Calling your bluff.
95.
THANE
Are you willing to die for this?
MELINDA
I am. But you're not.
THANE
Don't test me, Melinda.
MELINDA
You see? You know this is wrong. In
your heart, you know you're wrong.
THANE
Why are you fighting me on this? You
should be by my side, helping me
bring this corrupt system down. You
would rather kill me, and let them
get away with murder instead? The
murder and slaughter of my people! My
wife! My children!
THANE (cont'd)
It's not the first time, and it won't
be the last. I can stop them here and
now. You kill me, I take you with me.
MELINDA
I don't want to kill you, Thane. All
I want is to show you a different
path. You can still expose them. You
can have your justice, but not this
way. Look around.
Thane turns and sees the wreckage outside. The small fires,
the corpses, the dozens of people crying out for help.
MELINDA (cont'd)
It's too much.
MELINDA (cont'd)
Enough. Let it end.
A beat.
THANE
It ends when I say it ends.
MELINDA
So be it.
....THEN....
Melinda gets up and puts away her gun. She looks down at
Thane, somber. She didn't want to kill him, but he left her
no choice.
BLOOM
How'd you know he wouldn't do it?
MELINDA
(after a beat)
I didn't.
(off Bloom's look)
I thought you were dead.
BLOOM
Yeah, me too.
MELINDA
You took a bullet for me.
97.
BLOOM
I did, didn't I? Don't get used to
it.
MELINDA
Thank you, Bloom.
BLOOM
No problem.
(after a beat)
You know, my arm kinda hurts.
MELINDA
I'll help you back. We're all done
here.
FADE TO BLACK
FADE IN:
WEEKS LATER.
ON A TELEVISION SET:
FEMALE ANCHOR
In other news, after it was made
public that Director Allan Montgomery
was behind the cover up of the
Massacre on Kresslin, resulting in
the extinction of two Alien races, he
was officially released from his
position, and had this to say in his
last public address.
98.
MR. MONTGOMERY
People have asked if I regret what I
did, and I say...
(after a beat)
No. I stand by the choices I made
that day, and if given the chance, I
would do it again. Sometimes, vile
things must be done for the good of
the Galaxy. Whether you all like it
or not. One day, sooner or later, you
will understand that.
MELINDA enters.
MR. MONTGOMERY
Save your words. I brought this on
myself.
MELINDA
Did you mean what you said in your
address?
MR. MONTGOMERY
Of course not. The Council wanted a
scapegoat. They not only threw me
under the bus, they ran me over with
it, backed up, ran over me several
more times, and drove away.
MELINDA
Why didn't you leave? If you knew it
was wrong, why didn't you leave? Why
don't you fight them?
MR. MONTGOMERY
Ms. Martel... Melinda... you can't go
to war with the Galactic Council.
It's a losing battle. Best to do what
they say.
99.
A beat.
MELINDA
Who's your replacement?
MR. MONTGOMERY
I don't know. I assume you'll find
out soon. There's no telling what
will happen now that the truth is
out. The stain this has left on us
will never be washed clean.
MELINDA
Our image maybe tarnished, but we can
return the Agency to prominence. We
can make the galaxy trust us again.
MR. MONTGOMERY
That's not even our biggest concern.
MELINDA
What do you mean?
MELINDA (cont'd)
I thought you didn't--
MR. MONTGOMERY
I do now.
A beat.
MELINDA
I'll look into it.
MR. MONTGOMERY
Melinda.
DALTON
(to Harper)
And another thing, if you EVER pull a
stunt like this again, we'll
personally kick you out of Section 3!
Got it!?
HARPER
I helped save the galaxy. Doesn't
that count for anything?
DALTON
NO.
HARPER
Oh. Well, not even a tiny bit?
Dalton looks like he's about to leap across the desk and
strangle her.
FAYE
Dalton, honey, I think you're going
off the deep end here. The girl
really proved herself up there.
Attacking the weak spot on the
Frigate was her idea.
HARPER
And to remove the element zero.
DALTON
(to Faye)
She gets a pass for this?
FAYE
I don't know about a pass, but given
how she helped us, you should go
easier on her.
MELINDA enters.
MELINDA
Sorry to interrupt, but I need to
borrow Ms. Harper.
DALTON
This is not over. You hear me!
MELINDA
(quietly; to Harper)
Let's just go.
HARPER
What happens to me now?
MELINDA
You're going back to class to learn
the basics like everybody else.
HARPER
(dejected)
Aw, man.
MELINDA
That is, when you're not busy working
with us.
HARPER
No way! I get to... I get to work
with you? And everybody else?!
MELINDA
I may have put in a good word for
you.
HARPER
Thank you, thank you, thank you,
thank you, thank you!!
MELINDA
Doctor, I thought you said you were
leaving? Decided to stay on?
TIRAN
Yes. Thane's actions left negative
impact on Galaxy. Aliens will respond
with violence. Services needed here.
BLOOM (O.S.)
He's right.
BLOOM
Galaxy's not gonna save itself. Not
to mention, it'll keep us paid and
out of trouble.
TIRAN
There is that too. Need to set up.
Will be in med bay if you need me.
Tiran leaves.
BLOOM
(looking around)
Where's the kid?
HARPER (O.S.)
Here I am!
MELINDA
Harper, I specifically said just the
essentials.
HARPER
These are the essentials. My comics
are essential. My music is essential.
Snacks and drinks are essential. I
even got this from the weapons room.
MELINDA
That weapons room is under very
strict lock and key.
103.
HARPER
Oh.
(after a beat)
Well, see ya later.
BLOOM
You're not gonna say anything about
that?
MELINDA
I didn't see anything, did you?
BLOOM
(chuckles)
I guess not.
BLOOM (cont'd)
You've had quite an effect on that
kid.
MELINDA
As she had on me. You all have.
BLOOM
Melinda, I think this is the
beginning of a beautiful friendship.
MELINDA
Don't push it, Bloom. And no smoking
on my ship, please.
MELINDA (cont'd)
Thank you.
MELINDA
Everybody strapped in?
104.
BLOOM
I'm ready when you are.
HARPER
Woo-Hoo! Where to, Captain?
MELINDA
We'll wing it.
HARPER
Trouble, here we come!
FADE TO BLACK.
