SFA takes on Southeast Missouri for the first game of the year

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- Stephen F. Austin State University will face


Southeast Missouri State University at 6:30p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17,
2017 at Jaycees Field in Nacogdoches, TX. This will be the first game
of the season for the Lumberjacks.

The match up on the mound is junior right handed pitcher Trevor


Kiminksi for SFA against senior left handed pitcher Robert Beltran. The
last time SFA played Southeast Missouri was on May 15, 2016 where
SFA lost 9-5.

We are a different team since we last played Southeast Missouri. They


are a good team, but so are we. Sophomore right handed pitcher
Austin Hearn said. We are all very excited to start the season. We
ended the season with a bang in the Southland Conference tournament
and were hoping to pick up where we left off last season.

Last year the Lumberjacks finished the season with a 30-30 record and
a 14-16-conference record. They reached the Southland Conference for
the first time since 2013.

The Lumberjacks ranked second in the Southland conference with a


team batting average of .298 they also led the conference with 120
doubles. In the 2017 Southland Conference Preseason Coaches Poll
SFA was voted to finish in seventh place and to make an appearance at
the Southland Conference tournament again.

This will be the first game of the three-day round-robin tournament


that SFA is hosting at Jaycees Field. The teams in the tournament are
SFA, Southeast Missouri and University of Texas at Arlington. The next
game for the Lumberjacks will be at 11a.m. on Saturday against UT
Arlington where senior left handed pitcher Erik Nouis will take the
mound for SFA against the Mavericks.
