A Forgetful Night

Synopsis
Two friends awaken after a night out in a hotel room, no phone or money with no idea what happened the
previous night.

Format
My radio drama is a single play, meaning it is its own story consisting of one episode. It shall fit this
drama by having a beginning, middle and an end. The start introduces us to the character and slowly
shows the situation to the audience. The middle consists of finding their missing belonging and the
end features their rush to get to their flight home before it leaves.

Blurb:
Jason and Jack awaken after a night out goes horribly wrong. Jason awakens in a half-filled bathtub of
Orange Soda whilst Jack crawls out of bed whilst an Eastern European man sleeps beside him. Not
sure where the night began, Jason and Jack attempt to retrace their steps of the night previous in hope
of finding their phones, wallets and passports in time for the flight back home.

Narrative Structure
The narrative of my radio drama is linear. This means it has a simple start, middle and end with a
strict chronological development. This is crucial to my story because it helps me reveal information to
the audience one piece at a time and keeps the mystery of the story alive. This keeps the audience
guessing alongside the characters in the story.

Target Audience
The target audience for the radio drama are older teenagers to middle aged adults. I want to relate to
the demographic of people who have woken up after a drunkenly night without a clue what happened.
I feel this will give a good comedic factor to the drama as people relate to the situations Jack and
Jason find themselves in thanks to stupidity and drunkenness.
This sort of radio drama in my opinion should be aired online or on any of the BBC radio channels as
I feel it can appeal to a wide audience as people of all ages have woken up after a drunken night with
no idea of what happened.
This radio drama is aimed as socio-economic class B, C, D and E as the topic the radio drama is based
around, drinking, is not specific to one socio-economic class. People of all socio-economic classes
drink however, this radio drama is aimed at socio-economic class B and below because it is radio
entertainment and generally people in socio-economic class A have more expensive and other choices
of entertainment making somebody from this class unlikely to tune in for a radio drama.
This radio drama is suited to be aired on major radio stations such as BBC Radio 1 etc. I also plan to
upload it to YouTube on a later date after the initial release of the drama. BBC Radio 1 would be most
suitable as it has a wide range of audience and many listeners to expose to my radio drama. Uploading
to YouTube after the initial airing would be beneficial because if somebody wants to listen to the radio
drama again they will go either to YouTube or BBC Radio 1s website. Having it uploaded on our own
channel on YouTube, we will be able to gain revenue from its upload.
I have decided to air it at 6:30pm simply because this is a common time for people to have dinner or
to be sat down eating and relaxing at home, thus a perfect time for them to listen to my radio drama
when they have free time. I hope that this would broaden the listener reach as people who are not even
waiting to listen to it may listen to it whilst it is on the radio.

Actors
Jack Smith playing as Jack
Jack is perfect for this part as he is the same age as the character from the radio drama and is from the
same region therefore his accent is exactly what is wanted. Due to Jason Young and Jack Smith
already being friends in real life, their interactions in the radio drama will come across as real and
believable.
Jason Young playing as Jason
Jason fits the role because he is the same age as his character and from the same area making his
accent perfect for the role. Jason Young and Jack Smith are friends giving them good chemistry to
work with on the radio drama allowing for believable dialogue.
Character Biographies:
Jason
Jason is a young English teenager (18 years old) from Wokingham, Berkshire. He and Jack are friends
who both attend college together. Jason is an introverted extrovert and a natural leader who enjoys
being on top of things. Often envied for his looks however bad he is at using them for his advantage.
Jason also enjoys social events and being in funny situations. Jasons interests include music, sport,
socialising and film.
Jason will be represented as the natural leader who is desperately trying to solve the situation they are
in in time for their plane flight home.

Jack
Jack is the same age as Jason and is from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. Jack is incredibly
fashion and music driven. How he comes across and his style are important to his personality. Jack is
a swoon with the women and always provides a laugh even in the most tragic and serious of
situations. A quirky character and of average height, he enjoys trap music and going to parties or
events as much as possible. Jacks interests include fashion, music, gaming and socialising.
Jack will be represented with no hope of the situation being solved, he believes him and Jason might
as well run away and start a new life after knowing the extent to the situation they are in.

Statement of Intent
I want to tackle this project with creativity and making it relatable to as many listeners as possible
who have also awakened not remembering the previous night after a night out with a friend. I want to
do this creatively by never mentioning the exact location of where they are unless fictional. I also
want to reflect actual events that have probably happened to most people very realistically so that the
audience can in a way laugh along with the characters at the situations they are finding themselves in
rather than just laughing at the characters.

Storyline
Exposition
Jack and Jason will give the Information on the situation that they find themselves in to the listeners
by discussing how they do not remember where they are or how they got there. They will outline how
they need to get their wallets, phones and plane tickets before their flight later that day.
As Jason awakes in a bath full of orange soda to see Jack crawling out of bed half-naked he wonders
what happened last night, where they are and why he is still in a bath full of orange soda. Jason and
Jack converse about what few things they can remember and set of attempting to recover their missing
wallets, phones and plane tickets.
Conflict
The conflict of the situation comes from what Jason and Jack were involved in the previous night. The
audience alongside the characters start to realise they got accidentally involved in a much bigger
problem and situation than they thought. The conflict is how in their blackout state Jason and Jack
stole a drink from a prestigious mob boss and later threw the drink in his face. Jason and Jack are on a
mob hit list without knowing causing conflicts to occur with mysterious gang members throughout
their search for lost items.
After discovering the location of their missing belonging Jack and Jason head for the casino they
were in the previous night. Suspiciously being followed by two men in black suits the two start
becoming anxious about the situation and decide to try and lose the two men in the maze of slot
machines in the casino.

Resolution
The resolution of the situation comes when the captured Jason and Jack escape with the mob boss
presuming that they are dead. Jason and Jack fly back home and the radio drama ends.
Running out of the burning building with clothes burnt and torn, Jack and Jason start their journey to
the airport keeping low as to not be seen by the mob bosses men who to all their knowledge think of
Jason and Jack as dead.
