INTRODUCTION OF THE CASE

The case study is about the importance of carrying out ones responsibility and how mis-
understandings are created among employees.

The case starts with the entry of a new employee named Adam appointed as the HR
practitioner who is not fully aware of the functioning of the organization but is assigned
the responsibility of orienting the other new admits into the organization. When Roy a
new employee is admitted into the organization Adam takes him through the departments
an introduces him to the other important employees but fails to introduce Roy to his
mentor. This is the starting of the mis-understanding. Further Adam also fails to take into
consideration Roys request for a buddy because of his busy schedule and also because
Adams manager Jean had told him that opting for a buddy system was rare. Thus Adam
assumed it to be something not so important and acted very negligently and did not assign
a buddy to Roy. however, when Roy confronted Adam and questioned him about why he
has still not got a buddy Adam makes excuses and manages to assign a buddy to Roy.
This attitude of Adam did not settle well with Roy and eventually when gotten a chance
Roy presented his unhappiness with Adams attitude to his manager. And in the end Adam
was apologetic and promised to act better in the future but yet Roy was dis-heartened
with the entire episode.

Thus from the above case one can conclude that, the need of every employee is important
and should be taken care of seriously and also when a new employee is appointed and
given a responsibility the higher officials should make sure that the new employee is
properly trained and is given clear instructions and information so that he can carry out
his tasks effectively without dis-heartening the other employees. Also, as a HR
practitioner one should make sure that one reports all matters regarding the employees to
their superiors in this case Adam should have reported to his superior that he was unable
to introduce Roy the new admit to his mentor because of his mentors absence. The case
also shows us how mis-understanding between employees can affect their relationship
and in-directly affect their productivity.
QUESTIONS:-

1) A HR- practitioner is one who has constant contact with the employees in the
organization. The employees depend on the HR to resolve their problems and make
requests for their needs. Thus a HR should act very cautiously and sensitively when it
comes to handling conflicts or needs of employees because if not ,the employees can feel
de-motivated and loose confidence in the functioning of the organization.

In the above case Adam who is the HR practitioner acted very irresponsible with the
request of Roy a new employee and also failed to report to his superior the fact that he
was not able to introduce Roy to his mentor because his mentor was unavailable. As a HR
Adam should have fulfilled Roys need for a buddy but instead, he neglected that request
wholly on the bases of his assumption that Roys request was not that important. This act
of Adam eventually turned out to backfire and Roy was left feeling de-motivated.

When asked about how Adam as a HR should act to resolve Roy;s issue i would say that,
Adam should ensure that Roy feels comfortable in the organization and see to that he
apologizes to Roy about his past behavior and make sure that all his future needs are full
filled promptly. Adam should understand that every employee is important to the
organization and that the needs of all employees no matter how silly or big should be
taken seriously and this should be conveyed to Roy as well by Adam himself so that he
feels secure that Adam will not take his needs or complaints lightly in the future.

2) 2) A HR- practitioner is one who has constant contact with the employees in the
organization. The employees depend on the HR to resolve their problems and make
requests for their needs. Thus a HR should act very cautiously and sensitively when it
comes to handling conflicts or needs of employees because if not ,the employees can feel
de-motivated and loose confidence in the functioning of the organization.

In the above case Adam who is the HR practitioner fails to fullfill the request of Roy who
is a new admit to the organization, this behavior of Adam made Roy feel dis-heartened
and disappointed. In the end Roy brought up this issue along with a complaint that Adam
did not introduce him to his mentor (which was another blunder on Adams part for not
reporting the same to his superior) to the manger and put Adam in an embarrassing
situation.
In order for Adam to remove the impression of him in the mind of Roy, he as HR should
ensure that Roy feels comfortable in the organization and see to that he apologizes to him
about his past behavior and make sure that all his future needs are full filled promptly.
Adam should understand that every employee is important to the organization and that
the needs of all employees no matter how silly or big should be taken seriously and this
should be conveyed to Roy as well by Adam himself so that he feels secure that Adam
will not take his needs or complaints lightly in the future

When it comes to the Adams manager Jean he should see to that he doesnt pass his
observations to his employees because it was his comment that led Adam to take Roys
request lightly. Further he should ensure that a warning is given to Adam about his
behavior and also make sure that he reports all the happenings among the employees to
his from time to time so that when an employees comes with an issue in the future he can
handle it effectively without causing un-rest in the organization.

3) the manager of a company or of a department is responsible for the actions of the

employees working under him and he should be strong and vigilant about what he says
and does because his decisions will have an effect of the employees either directly or
indirectly

In the above case Jean who is Adams manager plays a role in Adams negligent behavior
because to an extent jeans comment about buddy system being very rarely followed or
picked by employees made an assumption in the mind of Adam that it was not something
very serious or important and thus, when Roy opted for the buddy system Adam was
surprised and took it lightly and even forgot about Roys request.

This act of Adam entirely because of the attitude that jean possessed when he told Adam
about the buddy system. Thus it can be said that though Adam is at fault for the entire
issue jean too was at fault for having planted a wrong though in the mind of Adam.

yes there should be implications. Jean should be told to be more careful while giving his
thoughts or opinions about certain tasks because employees tend to take his opinions
seriously and may act in a negligent manner.

Thus we can conclude that when a manager communicates with his employees he needs
to be careful about what he says because the employees under him often take his words to
be the final though and act accordingly because they will have a mind set that if since the
manager himself finds it to be not so important then the task itself can be ignored.
