LESSON PLAN

Objectives
-Teacher will review objectives with students at the start of class:
-Students will actively participate in discussion by volunteering their thoughts/opinions or
by answering questions posed by classmates/teacher.
-Students will respect their classmates by quietly listening when fellow students are
answering questions or have discussion questions of their own.
-Students will actively engage in activities to gain knowledge of the various characters
and their identifying traits within The Hiding Place.

Anticipatory Set:
-Teacher will engage students in opinion poll over characters and their traits. (Ex. Which
character is the most honest? Which character is most loved by children?) (4U)

Direct Instruction:
-Teacher will instruct students on how to create a character web model; students will learn why
character web models are helpful for learning about characters.

Guided Practice:
-Teacher will guide students in discussion over various characters.
-Students will work together to create individual character web models from chapters 1-4 of The
Hiding Place. (4U)
-Students will then engage in a Who Am I game. Students will each have the name of one
character from The Hiding Place taped onto their back. Students will ask partners yes/no
questions to try to identify which character they are from the book. Students will switch partners
after every question, until they are able to identify which character they are.

Closure
-Students will complete a Kahoot quiz over the characters from the story. (4U)
