Gehenna

At plain sight, flashing teeth under the sun

Laid bare out in the street, dogs and beetles have their treat

Bagged and Tagged, just a number in a list

Ask the worms if they can tell where you were born

Why do we always have to look up to the sky for answers when

maybe the truth lies there for our own naked eyes?

Babies being born, Old men dying, or more often than not, not even that luck

This body like an avatar, just like a driver in a car,

souls lining up to be sent to heaven or hell?

How many dead rats for a human soul? enough to equal its corpses weight?

Prayers, Grave goods, Pyramids, gold masked kings

Out of faith and respect? Out of fear of being called crude?

But does all this make a difference to our dead?

Might the Maasai be the wisest of us all?

Fight, barter, hide: it doesnt matter how you face it

In the end there is hardly any grace to be found in death

Ash to ash, dust to dust

Plain new death, just another one

But what of my good deeds, my place in heaven?

A life of restraint, was all that in vain?

Prayers to the one true god, obedience of the laws, and human sacrifice

A time when final justice is met, the wicked and the just both in the right place

The day Ill be back into the world to be born again

No need for gehenna, nirvana, demons from hell

Make your time on this Earth count, off your knees and on the road!

In this lifetime, paradise it seems, is denied by men wearing the right hats

We are told how to dress, to think, who to love, and that evolution is not real!

Paradise, Reincarnation , within your grasp if you do as you are told

Why do we always have to look up to the sky for answers, when

The middlemen cannot agree on even the simplest things?

Prophets, priests fighting over your soul (or worldly things)

They cannot then all be true, why claim to know the mind of god?

Zeus got the silent treatment too, couldnt it be the same with these

Mutually exclusive glimpses of the untrue?
