4. Section-C carry question 8, of 10 marks.

Section-A
Question 1- Write down the different possible failures in bolts and plates.

Question 2- Write the different reduction factors in bolted connections.

Question 3- Briefly explain the importance of ductility in steel structures.

Question 4- What do you understand by reduction in live load of columns in a building.

Question 5- Briefly explains the different type of load combinations.

Section-B

Question 6- Estimate the wind pressure of a lattice tower, 50m high located in Delhi.

Question 7- Calculate the strength of a 18mm diameter bolt of grade 4.8 for a lap joint of 14mm
and 12mm thick plates.

Section-C

Question 8- A building built in Zone-III, on a medium stiff soil. Determine the lateral loads on
the various floor levels for the following data

No of floors= 3, height of floor=3.4m, floor area=80m2

Dead load intensity = 12kN/m2
