Q.1 Answer the following.

(A) Differentiate between Limit state method and Working state method. (2)

(B) Write importance of use of reinforcement in concrete. (3)

(C) State and explain in brief types of limit states and assumption made in
theory of limit state of collapse. (5)

Q.2 Answer the following.


(A) Sketch neatly the design stress and strain block parameter and derive
equation for depth of neutral axis and moment of resistance for balanced
beam section. (2)

(B) Under which circumstances Doubly R.C beam is preferable?


Differentiate between Singly R.C beam and Doubly R.C beam. (3)

(C) A R.C. Beam rectangular in section 200mm X 410mm effective is singly


Reinforced by 4 Nos. of 12mm dia. Fe-415 grade steel and M20 grade
Concrete. Determine moment of resistance of section. (5)

(B) Enlist advantages and disadvantages of structural steel. (3)

(C) Two plates of 12 mm and 20 mm thickness have width of 100 mm. These
plates are connected by lap joint to resist design tensile load of 70 kN. Find (5)
bolt value if 16 mm bolts of grade 4.6 is used for connection.

Q.4 Answer the following.

(A) State advantages and disadvantages of welded connections. (2)

(B) Explain the lap and butt joint with neat sketches. (3)

(C) Two plates having thickness 6 mm and 8 mm made up of Fe 410 grade steel
are joined together by 16 mm diameter bolts of grade 4.6. Calculate nominal (5)
bearing strength of bolt. (Take kb = 1).
