Technology Enhanced Blended Learning Lesson Plan

Lesson Title: The 5 Senses

Context: This lesson was created so that students are able to learn about the five senses and the
major body parts that they have. Before this activity the students already knew about some of the
important body parts, but now they are going to learn more. As for the five senses we looked at
an infographic that talked a little bit about them and what they do. This lesson is a refresher on
the students so they know what everything does. This material is important because the students
need to know what the five senses do and how they will help them in their lifetime along with
some of the important body parts.

Objectives:
Students will be able to distinguish the five senses and describe what they do.
Students will be able to name the major body parts.

State Standards:
G-K.1.2 Name the five senses and describe what they do.
G-K.1.1 Name the major body parts.

Materials: The materials that will be needed for this lesson will be tablets or computers,
Youtube, a powerpoint, google forms, Learn the 5 Senses app and ABCYA.com for an online
game.

Procedures:
Introduction (10 minutes): I will start the class by taking attendance. I will then go over what I
have planned for this lesson. Once I tell them what the lesson is going to be about I am going to
explain the different stations that I have set up for the groups. Then I will split the class into
groups depending on the size of the class. After they are in their groups I am going to have them
watch one short youtube video on the senses so they can remember what we are learning about.

Small Group Discussion (15 minutes): In the teacher directed small group discussion I am going
to have a powerpoint that I go over with the students to explain to them some of the functions of
the senses and the body parts that we associate with them. During this time I will stop and ask a
few questions so that I can check for some understanding of this lesson.
Collaboration (15 minutes): In the collaboration station I will have them pair up in their groups
and play a game on the app Learn the 5 Senses. On the app they will have to work together to
play the different types of games that they have. Once they have finished with the game the
students will research more about their sense and then tell three facts that they learned about it to
their group members.

Independent Digital (15 minutes): In the independent digital station I am going to have the
children complete a game called The Five Senses. On this website they are going to test their
skills on how to listen and see if they know which sense does which things. The students are able
to listen to the voice on the game and learn more about the senses before they do the quiz. Once
they finish the quiz they are able to go back and learn about it again or play the game again and
see if they can do better than they did the first time.

Closure (5 minutes): At the end of this lesson I am going to reiterate all the key points that I had
talked about before the lesson so that they remember what they learned. After I am done talking I
am going to have them take a quick little survey that I created on Google Forms so that I can test
for understanding of content. The survey has five questions so I can just make sure that they
know what they learned during the class.

Rationale:
Youtube Video: I chose the youtube video The Five Senses to start us off because it talks about
everything that I want them to learn through this lesson so I want to show them it in a cool and
fun way. It will also help to get them engaged in what we are about to learn about.

Learn the 5 Senses App: I chose this app because it goes on to explore the five senses a little
further then I did before. It also talks about the body parts that are associated with the five
senses. The app is also another way to engage the students in learning about this topic.

ABCYA Senses Game: I chose this game to play because it also teaches the students more about
the five senses and makes the kids think deeper as to which body part goes with each sense. This
game helps with putting together that the ear is used for listening and the eye is for seeing. It is
also just a fun way to see if the kids are actually understanding what I am teaching.

Google Forms: I chose Google Forms because it is an easy and different way of quizzing the
students. It allows me to track the responses that the students submit so that I can see if they are
all understanding the content that I am teaching them in this lesson. I will then be able to see
what I need to review if the students are still unsure about something.
