A Demand for Fairness and Equality in Higher Education

Have you ever dreamt of a world where education was free? Or possibly a world where everyone was

given equal opportunities to succeed? This ideal world, this utopia, should be the world we live in; however, that is

not the case. In our world many students cannot afford higher education, even less those who are victimized because

of their race or ethnicity. Did you know Hispanic and African American students have the lowest retention rates of

students in the whole country? According to a report from Elizabeth Taylor, author of the article Minority Students

More Likely to Attend Community Colleges, In Massachusetts only 6% of the Hispanic population attended college

and subsequently only 5% of the African American race attended college. We demand higher education become

more accessible to all students, but more specifically to students who are victimized and put at a disadvantage

because of race and ethnicity in comparison to others. We petition for a stop to the relentlessly increasing

tuition rates and create a truly neutral environment for higher education.
