Hampton in Arden Invitation Petanque Triples

Good Friday 2017


On Good Friday, 8 teams descended on Hampton sports club to engage in an invitation
triples competition. There were two teams from Hampton, one each from Solihull, Coventry,
Whitnash, Nomades and Stockton, with a Presidents team making up the eight.
The teams were split into two divisions of four and played three timed games during the
morning. In league one, Coventry won all three games to finish first, Solihull with two wins
finished second, Nomades were third, and Hampton 1 were fourth.
In league two, the Presidents team were top with three wins, Whitnash second with two,
but minus 3 points, Hampton 2 with one win finished fourth and Stockton supported the
others with no wins.
The afternoon saw two rounds of knockout games to eventually seeing all the teams playing
for places.
7th/8th place was contested between Hampton 2 represented by Steve and Gill McKenna,
with Adrian Hill playing the Nomades team of Eileen Sollis, Ian Dyson, Tony Sollis and Richard
Dinnis. Nomades came on top with a 13-5 score to leave Hampton 2 with the wooden
spoon.
5th/6th place was played between the Stockton team of Dave Hancox, David Kimpton and Bill
Bentley who lost out to the Hampton 2 triple of Julie Williamson, Simon Coley and Ed
Thorpe 13-9
3rd/4th Place had Solihull matching up with Coventry. The Solihull team were represented by
Barry and Carol Cox, and Phil and Gill Matthews. Coventry were represented by Brian Stote,
Tony Thompson and John Baxter. Coventry came out on top 13-2
This left the Presidents team to compete with Whitnash for the money. The Presidents team
of Rich Powell, David Mason and Geoff Phillips had already beaten the Whitnash team of
Carol and Glenn Woodward with Rachel Kelly in the first round, and were in no mood to be
beaten in this game either, and finished up 13-4 winners to take the first prize of 30 leaving
Whitnash with the 15 consolation prize.
After the competition, Rich Powell on behalf of the Presidents team donated their winnings
to the Hampton club.
