As we talked about working with all four groups together to develop a Title IX
orientation for the Honors college, I believe that this is not the best decision. I think it would be
better if we just stuck with our original groups and stick with our individual plans, especially
since we have finally decided on what we want to do. It we have to change our plan around to
align with an orientation, I feel as if we are going to get further behind because we would have to
work as a class again at this point. I also dont think we have enough time to develop a solid plan
for it to be a successful plan that could be carried out. By just sticking to our original plans we
can continue to develop what we already have and not have to conform to a Title IX orientation.
Also, in my experience, not that many people participated in my Honors College orientation
compared to how many Innovations in Honors students we have and the others are mostly
freshman in the other programs. The orientation will not be beneficial if it cannot influence the
majority of the people in the various honors programs. From my understanding, the orientation is
also not mandatory as well, but for the students to become acquainted with one another. For our
original plan, we were thinking towards not including freshman for gender-inclusive housing like
many other institutions have done. The next steps for our original projects will be to set up
appointments with the Director of Housing and Residence Life, Valara Sample and the Assistant
Director of Housing and Residence Life, Ryan Hall. Our group wants to see what the past
attempts to get gender-inclusive were like and know what can we do to push forward the process
to getting the housing on campus. After we understand the past, we can plan for the ultimate goal
of the project. We can either plan for how to fix the past issues or how to add to the past issues.
