Jigsaw Reading

You will be splitting up into six different expert groups to collaboratively analyze the six
main research areas about GMOs:
1. Promises and dangers of GMOs
2. Environmental advantages and disadvantages
3. Health benefits and risks
4. Economic consequences
5. Who benefits and who is harmed?
6. Impact on the general consumer

Your teacher will be assigning you an expert group and a home group.
Part 1:
With your expert group, you will first individually and silently read and take notes over
your assigned article. Find a sentence, a phrase, and a word that you would like to
discuss with the other experts. Then, working with the other experts, discuss your notes
to create a Venn Diagram of pros and cons to inform your classmates about your area.
(You will be presenting the information for your research area for the whole class, so
make sure to provide accurate and substantial information!)

Part 2:
With your family group, you will do a gallery walk of the Venn Diagrams. The expert of
the Venn Diagram you are reviewing will present the information. Take notes on each
area on the provided handout (make sure you record the pros and cons!).
