Analysing Sources

Questions to ask!

Author Do we know anything about who created the source, such as


their occupation or where they lived? If there is no author listed,
can we find out which group or company created the source?

When was the source produced? How does the context in which
Date it was created help make sense out of it?

For whom was the source originally created?


Audience

What did the author wish to communicate to the audience? How


Message would the audience be likely to respond?

What was the authors reason for producing the source? Do they
Agenda have a particular point of view?

What type of source is it? How might this affect its content (e.g.
Nature a diary is for private purposes, an advertisement is persuasive
etc.)

How does the author show their point of view in the language or
Techniques imagery they use?
