Mrs. Leftwich did an outstanding job on a guided reading lesson (level 50). Each element of the lesson flowed smoothly
beginning with Word Study and including the comprehension portion of the lesson. She made sure each child was
engaged and used talking chips to manage discussions. During the lesson, she kept anecdotal notes while students
were reading. In addition, she prompted a child as needed to reread a sentence or to revisit a challenging word. It was
evident that she had a routine established such as reading quietly to her when she pointed at a student. In my brief visit,
it was obvious that she set high expectations for her students and created a positive learning environment. I was
impressed by her interaction with the students and the quality of the instruction.
