Was the retelling assisted? No

For this retelling assignment, the assessor asked a three-year-old student to retell the story of The Three

Billy Goats Gruff. The assessor read the story to her once and then modeled retelling the story. The student

was excited to tell the story herself as she enjoys doing activities like this. She received a score of 10 out of 15.

Overall, the student was very thorough in her retelling of the story. She received a score of 10 out of 15 because

she retold all of the main parts, but did not include all parts of the specific story problem nor the ending. The

students strength was retelling the sequence of the major events. She included all of the necessary parts and

used good dialogue and even different voices to state exactly what the goats and the troll stated in the book. Her

weakness was not identifying the story problem at the beginning and not ending the story with all of the details

included in the book. The student did not need any assistance when retelling the story.
