Group Activity Reflection

At first I was hesitant about doing a group presentation. I like to be the only person

responsible for my grade, and in the past I have had situations where group members did not pull

their weight and it ended up affecting my grade. I have also had situations where I have had to

do other group members portion of the project at the last minute in order to prevent getting a

lower grade on a group project. Thankfully, I did not have that problem with my group members

for this activity. We were all on the same page, listened to each others ideas, and executed a

great presentation and activity. For our section, I liked how we were able to blend the three

chapters together to discuss the common theme, which was race and education. I think that by

making the connection between slavery/free labor, the working class, capitalist class and how

they affect different races (more specifically Native Americans and Blacks) in many ways such

as poverty levels, imprisonment and death rates/ acts of violent crimes toward these races, we

were able to make the class critically think about the American justice system and how society

uses these races for capitalistic gain. It also showed how these issues affect the education system

for these races as well such as high dropout rates and lack of funding toward the schools that

these students attend.
