For my research proposal, I am inquiring as to how I can learn to become a better public
speaker. Public speaking is a skill that we are taught is important throughout our entire lives.
However, many people have either had no instruction in public speaking or have had instruction
but still lack confidence in their abilities. Now more than ever public speaking is essential to
thriving in higher education and in the workforce. Many people will have to speak in front of
others on a day to day basis. My purpose for this project is to explore the benefits of public
speaking, how to become skilled in the art of public speaking, and what is being done to teach
others this valuable skill. I use to dislike public speaking. It seemed cruel to me to take someone
shy or unprepared and put them in the spotlight. However, as I soon realized the importance of
public speaking during high school, but I still wonder if thrusting someone into the spotlight is
the best way to introduce someone to the idea of public speaking, or if other methods would be
more effective. I personally think that there has to be some other way to improve someones
public speaking skills. This topic is important to me because public speaking a skill that I wish I
had developed more in high school and is a skill I think that could help others with their
